Is a "mild" cough normal? Hello, I'm new to Yorkie Talk and I just wanted to let you all know I'm so excited to have found this site! I also have a concern with my 1 year old Yorkie Emma Jean. She has always had a little bit of a cough.....she would "hack" no more than maybe twice a week or so. I've never been too concerned due to other Yorkies/dogs in my family that do the same. Although, it seems to be getting worse, she has waken up almost every night now for the past week coughing. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Is there something I can do for her or give her other than water? Thank You, |
I would have her checked by the vet. Collapsing trachea is common in yorkies and you want to rule that out. Does she wear a collar? oops almost forgot to say welcome to YT! |
Thanks for fast reply! No, she only wears a colar when she goes somewhere which is rairly ever. I was concerned about that so I do have an appointment with the Vet on Friday.......... She usually only coughs at night. Thanks |
let us know how the vet visit goes, and I hope everything is a-ok!!! |
Hi Jamie! I'm new here this week, too! (and a new yorkie mom!) My 5 month old yorkie, Topher, developed a cough a few weeks ago and when I brought him to the vet I was surprised that the diagnosis was tonsillitis! It was just a mild case, but the doc put him on antibiotics for 14 days and it cleared up quite well. During the first week, the vet said that he might find hard food irritating on his sore little throat, so we mainly gave him soft food for that time. According to my vet, tonsillitis isn't uncommon in yorkies. I'm glad you're seeing your vet. Hopefully everything goes well for your little one. Val |
A cough is a cough, if yourare feeling uncomfortable or uncertain, then take him to the vet and take that worry of your. Back it is better safe than sorry. I have made it a habit that if I feel weird about anything going on with my girl I will take her in regardless. Sometimes I think back on all the money I've spent in their but my love for her just gives me the extra push out the door. :animal36 |
Hello And Welcome To Yt! Hope her vet visit gives her relief. :) |
