My yorkie is 12 weeks old and just like a newborn. She wont let me walk out of the room without her. I am getting really tired of this I will put her in a crate to walk in the other room to take a shower, change the laundry or something quick and she will start barking and crying VERY LOUDLY and I have tried leaving her in a room with my husband or kids but that makes no difference. I also have trouble with her at night wanting me I have been known to put my fingers through the tiny holes of her crate while I am asleep so she feels like I am with her.. This is CRAZY. Tonight I bought a plastic play pen and I will try her sleeping in this (Probably wont work) Any suggestions will this get better I feel like I can't get anything done with this 3lb dog.

Some people have suggested get a carrier for her so when you are around the house you can carry her. Unfortunately (or fortunately I think) they get really attached to their owner and really one specific person. Georgie comes in every room I am in to hang out with me but not as much as he used too when he was real small. I understand your stressed, and I would suggest that you just let her be the way she is for now and she will grow out of it. Our babies really need us, it would stink to be taking away from our mommies at such a young age. I embrace Georgie being attached it's a compliment to have another living thing love you as much as your baby does IMO.

*sighs* I wish I could help but Bella is just like that! I've had her for a little over 2 weeks now (she's 14weeks) and she cries and cries if I'm out of sight. I have her sleeping in a crate next to me (on my night stand directly aside of me) and she's fine, but if I leave the room to pee, she whines and cries and wakes everyone up. I now have to shower w/her in the crate in the bathroom w/me!!! Everyday I try to back the crate up a bit more out of the bathroom (Thankfully I'm the only one home during the day so I can leave the door open). I'm hoping that eventually she'll get used to not being "so close" and stop barking. When we leave the house, she barks and barks, and when we return, the poor thing is hoarse. I love her and she's so precious but it's so frustrating!!! :confused:

I totally agree with Cheska's Bella I have done the same thing with the crate on the nightstand. I also have a 3 year old bischon and I don't remember this being anything close to when when she was a puppy. hope my yorkie outgrows this soon. I am hope alot of the day so I am going to try the exercise pen and see if this will work I tried the baby gate - she jumps over it I tried the bathroom she chews the drywall and molding. I am running out of ideas. Of course now that I am up she is asleep. If only she would stay that way till about 6:00 am I would be fine. :confused:

I know the crying can get to you, but the only way they will get used to it is stay in the crate. The crying will eventually stop. If she knows you are going to come back and let her out she will continue to cry.

This happened when I got Brownie, she followed me everywhere and I had a special bond with her that we still share, but now, since she's older and a little more independant, she doesn't do this anymore, especially when she knows I'm in the house.

I think it's cute that she wants to be with you everywhere, because you'll regret the day when she stops doing it and you want some loving.

I agree. I also think those are precious moments (even though they're annoying right now...) that we'd miss once they learn their independence. I actually wish Aggie'd follow me around a little more. Sure, she's happy to see me when I first come home but she's soo comfortable with everyone in the family that she's fine if I walked out the room. :(

Don't worry, I think it's a phase. It shall pass.

I brought my pup home when he was 8 weeks old and he has slept with me from the first night on. I can honestly say that he has never cried once - he just snuggled up and slept like a little trooper for 5 or 6 hours from the first night on. Now at 7 months, he easily sleeps 7 or 8 hours or more.

I didn't have to worry about his small size -- his favorite place to sleep was across the top of my head or across my neck....and needless to say, he grew fast.

Now that he is a little older - he seems to like to sleep at the foot of the bed.

But - I know that some people don't want to sleep with their dogs (or their husbands don't!) Just because it's interesting - a poll here on YT revealed that 90% of the people who answered the poll do sleep with their Yorkies. Interesting - right!

***** I think these little pups just don't like being left alone. It really isn't natural. Normally, they would be with their mother and litter mates much longer than we let them be.

I too had a similar problem when my girl was smaller.I had to use the toilet with the door open.etc. She is now much more confident after puppy classes,socialisation and being walked in different places.I think it's an age and stage thing! She still prefers me,but will settle with other family members.She sleeps with me too--at the crook of my neck! She settles in her puppy pen while I go to work and doesn't cry any more.

Ceeby did the same thing with me at first. He loved to play and I was his playmate. Everytime I left the room (except at night when he slept), he would start crying and barking for me. That all stopped as soon as I got him a playmate about three months later. Maybe you should get her a playmate.

When Dudley and Dinkey were babies I had purchased the plush stuffed heart beat doggie. It has a little battery operated box in it that is supposed to sound like their Moms heartbeat. It worked wonders!!!! No crying at night, content in there kennel. Have any of you tried that? I feel sorry for your furbabies. They only want their Mommy for a short time and then they are off to the races, playing all over the house. They will grow out of this stage and you will miss it..............mine did!! BUT, the stuffed heartbeat puppy worked great at night and when I had to be gone. I bought mine online for about $20.00 I think????? It's been over 4 years, so I might have the price wrong. Hang in there............ :)

Kirby did the same thing but what drove me crazy was when i was on the computer and he wanted to be in my lap. he would cry cry cry. when i put him on my lap, all he wanted to do then is chase the curser on the computer around and lick my screen. i told my husband how this was making me nuts!!! he told me to ignore him. i did and it took three days and now kirby just sits at my feet. believe me, if you ignore him/her they will stop. good luck to you

Thanks to everyone with all your great advice. I put the new playpen up last night and put her comfy bed, potty pad, water and toys with her and to my disbelief she slept ALL NIGHT. I couldn't believe it she didn't make a noise and today she has been in there and seems VERY HAPPY. I hope this continues. It has made me SOOOOOOO happy... :)
