I'm a little scared right now! Last night i was trying to train Oliver to "Spin"- while giving him a treat and trying to pet him (he was running like crazy) i put my hand of to catch him and i THINK my thumb hit him either in the throat area or chest. I FEEL SO HORRIBLE! It's not like i did it on purpose, I was trying to catch the rascal and my hand was just in the wrong spot. :( :( :( :( :( :( My concern is this- can you CAUSE a collapsed trachia? He didn't respond to the touch at all- didn't stop running or cry or anytihng but because i was thinking abotu it all night I'm noticing his bark isn't loud (well he h asn't barked loud yet... maybe that's all) and he was having a snorting/sneezing attack this morning (not loud and by attack i mean probably 45 seconds) and today while he was playing with his favortie shoe he started sniffling kind of hard. And I don't know if i'm overreacting... :( Please let me hear your opinions Thank you |
im sure if you had hurt him he would of cried.mine have had so many bumps scrapes knocks bangs and falls over the years i couldnt count, lucky they bounce:D |
First, he probably does have some soreness in his throat/larynx/trachea. If you are really concerned, have your vet check him out.. Secondly (and I do not intend to be mean) but why are you trying to teach him to spin? Does he already know, sit, stay, come, down and other really important commands? I tried teaching tricks when I got my first Yorkie and a very wise person pointed out to me that I was teaching "Cute Tricks" and not one thing that will make her safer or more disciplined. She said there was always time to teach tricks after I had a safe and trained dog. So, I am passing that advice on |
Oh I think he will be OK. If he was in pain you would know it. Hang in there Mom!!! :hearts-xx |
I'm sure you didn't hurt him. You would have to chop him in the throat to cause his trachea to collapse. He probably has some allergies. I would take him to the vet just to reassure, if that's what you want to do. Otherwise, I'm sure he's fine. |

and thank you all so much for you words about his boo-boo. He is acting and sounding normal and was barking like a madman-yorkie earlier. I'm sure I just am too anxious! hehe but that's what a yorkie momma is for! |
I owe you an apology for offending you about your little guy learning to spin. You are right-he is a well-trained Yorkie and I don't mean "for his age". He is well-trained for any age..It is so hard to train these kids sometimes, but you got totally lucky and have a youngun who loves to learn as much as you love to teach him. |
