Question about letting your Yorkie have puppies.
 

We've been discussing it as an option since we got Molly, and I know she's only 12 weeks old but we're way ahead of ourselves..
So with people who have had experiences with this or people who would like to give advice.. what do you think? Should we?
I'm also really concerned about having to give them away at the end of it all.. I get attached to animals so easily and little baby Yorkie's running around is gonna be so HARD to even imagine about not having them here anymore! It'd probably break my heart as each one went..
So, I'm stuck. To have puppies, or not to have?
Has anyone else found it hard to give them up?

There has been some threads on the issue of breeding and if I were you I would go back and read through them, but I was like you and thought about breeding her, but Kloey is my pet, she was not bought to breed, she was bought to love and cherish, I talked to my vet last week about this matter and she told me the more Kloey went through heat cycles the more prone she is to cancer, so that is something to consider. Dealing with them when there in heat is not fun, they bleed for about 21 days. I had to buy preemie diapers to put on her to keep the mess down. I'm not telling you you should or your shouldnt, but I'm having Kloey fixed asap. Also if you did breed, you should wait till she is at least 2 yrs old.

You have quite a while to decide what to do. The first thing you have to do is wait and see how big Molly will be when she's full grown. Then you have to think about the risk involved with pregnancy and delivery. Do you have the money to spend on emergency vet care such as a caesarian if needed? I've also heard of moms not being able to nurse the babies and the owner has to do it round the clock. Then you've already considered the hardest part. Letting those puppies go on to their new families. I'm glad people can do it otherwise we'd all be yorkieless but I don't think I'd be able to do it either.

Breeding the family pet is a risk I would not take.
 

Like Kloey's mom said, breeding a PET is not the best of ideas...Did you buy your pup specifically for breeding from a breeder who knew that from the start? If so, you may just have a dog that would be a good breeder. If not, you have a long ways to go before making this decision. Here are some great threads to refer to:

Thanks for all the advice.. I'm kinda really wary on breeding her, and no we didn't buy her just for this purpose. It's just my mum and dad are thinking it's a good idea and think that it'll all go alright. I think they're just thinking about the money.. but I'd be so scared for her.

If you breed thinking you are going to make money, You are Wrong! You should only breed your dog to better the breed. If you have a supurb speciamen of the breed then I would consider breeding her. You have to take in the fact that everything may not go alright. My little girl just had her first litter. After 2 hrs of pushing and no pups I rushed her to the vet who did an emergancy c-section. After an hour they finally got the one in the birth canal breathing. We almost lost that one. After only a week and a half my girl developed mastisits and one of her mammay glands burst open. She did not eat or drink for 24hrs and therefore did not produce milk. I am not bottle feeding 5 puppies. They need to be fed every 2hrs. around the clock. My girl has been on 2 different antibiotics now. One of the pups have an eye infection which I am fighting with meds. because of the infection mom had. It is very expensive to have a litter of pups even when you don't have complications. You also run the risk of losing your beloved pet. I'm not trying to scare you away from breeding I just want you to know what is involved. If you do decide to breed you female please research, research, research. Also it would be helpful if you could find a breeder in your area that you could help assist in welpings. Good luck on your decicion. :aimeeyork

To be honest, there is no money in breeding yorkies if it's done right....and can be quite expensive if you have any problems.

I agree on the money part. I will be happy if I just break even and not so sure that will happen. I had to have c-sections on both of my girls plus one almost got eclampsia. I lost one pup with tasha and almost lost all of jerseys.
I would say if you want to breed then defenitely do your homework. I am happy that I made a choice to breed.
