Clothes & Tangles This weekend I bought Mia a cute cotton t-shirt and it fit great. When I took the shirt off I realized it created the biggest knots and mats in her hair. It took me an hour and a half just to get one side combed out. Has this ever happened to anybody else? - Misty |
I use a condioning mist by Tropiclean, it works and smells wonderful, but did you brush her before you put the shirt on her? |
yes...it was awful. But i have boys and I keep thier hair shorter now. |
I've gotten into the habit of brushing her every day so her tangles are pretty minimal, but I was thinking of getting her hair cut shorter. I was mainly curious to see if the shorter hair would help. She still has quite a bit of her baby fuzz left as well. - Misty |

Cali has been in a onesie's since her surgery a week ago I honestly don't know how I am ever going to get her unmatted. |
bunjee gets most of his mattes and tangles on his underside and legs. so i keep those hair short. |
Oh yes...they will mat after wearing clothes....I spray a little Ice on Ice on my girls before I put any clothes on them....some people say Satin helps cut down on knots but I've found just the movement of a yorkie in clothes will cause tangles... the longer they're in clothes...the worse the mats will form. SO....My advise is to only wear clothes only when you go out ...or find something with satin underlining if you have this problem. Some mats are so hard you almost can't brush thru them...and it hurts the dog :( The other thing I used for getting out mats is JOHNSONS NO MORE TANGLES for real babies....saturate the hair and work the knots with your fingers first - then brush Some yorkies are lucky and don't knot up...both my girls do. |
That is why i dont put clothes on kelsey a lot b/c of the knots and tangles. It really stinks! |
I don't fool with clothes unless it is a sheater to keep Chloe and Lacey warm, but I think yorkies are adorable when dressed up. My issue lately has been those "fuzzies" from oak trees. They just keep their coats a tangled mess. I so want this stage of tree growth to end.... ss |
Absolutely true!!! Clothes can cause matting. I use to keep certain areas of my Bichon much shorter for this reason....under his arms - around his neck, etc. because these areas especially matted. Often - shorter hair (a puppy cut) mhelps greatly - and certainly some clothes cause less matting than others. I will never know how I lucked out with my not-too-little Yorkie, but He could wear an outfit and not be comed for a month - then, I could remove it and a comb would sail through his hair with never a matt or tangle. Mine wear clothes alot. I keep them both in floor length coats and I have some problems with matting. This is what I found to be most helpful. Use a product to detangle and cut down on static and brush them before you dress them. If at all possible buy clothes with satin lining, and buy clothes a little loose. The tighter the clothes are the more they will matt(at least that holds true for my 2) and like someone else said, try to buy clothes without sleeves. Also I never leave clothes on any longer than I need to, they usually only get dressed if they are going out or if it is freezing cold outside to potty. But the biggest thing I have found to be helpful is I never dress mine if even a little bit dirty. They get baths once a week, after the third day I don't dress them anymore unless I bathe them again. Hope some of these things are helpful. |

I would dress Lexy and Peanut everyday if it didn't cause the matting! |
