Thats o.k. I kinda thought maybe you hadn't seen my other posts lol.. |
Hi Just for information . In Britain it is unusual to have the dew claws taken off at all.We have had none of our dogs done ever and only ever had one dog who caught his, and it was sorted without losing the nail. We just keep them short but then we also have their tails on, as this also is illegal here to have them docked! Unless you have special permission and I think they are also trying to stop this now! |
Interesting! The breeder I bought Kip from left the claws in tack. Kip did rip her dewclaw on the front once while outside playing and she was in a lot of pain until it healed. I think in the future that I will have all my dogs dewclaws removed after seeing what she went through. |

yorkies dont have back due claws, they are only on the front legs, all my yorkies have there dew claws and yes they have catched them on things before but it heals in just a few days, the other claws are just as likely to get pulled as the dew claws are.dew claws where removed as there is no use for them and to prevent them being pulled when the yorkie was ratting. :) |

A yorkie that we had before the one's that we have now, got his dew claws caught on our cinderblocks leading to the garage. Don't know how he did it but he did. Needless to say I took him and had them removed but this has been 10 - 11 years ago. I would be afraid that they would get caught on something just because I've had one that did. |

yeah sometimes a freak one will be on the back legs, :) you say your dog has them on all four legs?never heard of that before, there should be 4 claws on the front leg and 1 dew claw then 4 claws on the back, she says counting her dogs toes to make sure lol. |
I would rather have them removed. YOu can have them removed and they go through the pain ONCE or you can leave them and they can risk getting them caught and go through that several times. I know they heal but to me it seems like that way would be sore alot longer. I have had my toenail ripped off before and it didn't hurt half as bad as when I had one half way ripped off..the rest of the nail that was left kept getting caught on my sock and that HURT.. But either way I think this is another one of those things that is a personal preference.. |
