Soon to be new Yorkiepoo mommy! 1 Attachment(s) Hi all! I am new to this forum. I am getting a yorkie-poo on April 28th. She is still with her mommy, but I wanted to get a few tips on how to get ready for my new baby girl. I have never had a yorkie before, or any other kind of small dog. Are there must haves that I should get before I bring her home? I will be working so should I get a playpen for her? Also is there a big difference in a yorkie and a yorkiepoo? Do I have to own a full yorkie to be on this forum? Any info would be great. Thanks guys |
Hello, welcome to YT. Your puppy is still so new and tiny! She is very cute tho! You do not have to have a 'pure' yorkie to be on this site. I am so glad that youi chose to join YT. |
Hello and welcome. You dont have to have a purebreed yorkie to be welcomeon this site. We have soem people that post that dont even have a dog. Everyone is welcome here. Some things you might want to have for the new puppy is an xpen or a large crate to keep it in, a small crate to travel with, nutrical, baby blankets, toys, things to chew on,and food. Your pup has beautiful coloring by the way. Good luck |

1 Attachment(s) Hi, and welcome to the forum. I too have a yorkipoo, I am not quite sure though what part of her is the poodle and what part is the yorkie. I have never seen a pure yorkie up close before so I cannot pin point what characteristics she has of the yorkie, I will post a picture of her at 7 months and weighs a little under 5 pounds, I don't even know if she is fully grown or not yet. |

The person who I am getting Daisy from said she looks like she will have short hair and will look more like her dad, who is a poodle. Who knows, she is still so young. I still think she is a cutie. I am going up to see her tomorrow. I will post more pics then. She is only 2 and a half weeks old now, so I have to go visit her for a few weeks before I can bring her home. When do they open their eyes??? |
She looks beautiful! It will be interesting to see if she turns out more poodle,or more Yorkie.I have a Silkshire-Yorkie/Sydney Silky cross who looks all Yorkie! Great equipment--I have an outward hound car seat--she prefers it to the crate in the car,as she can see out the window and is in the front next to me!A necessity when you are in the car alone with the pup! A harness-- I used a kitten one at first.Collars are too big,not good for windpipes. Nail clippers--kitten ones. My pup has a squeaky newspaper which she loves and a squeaky fur rat! Don't forget toys! Otherwise, the X-pen is great. |
I forgot when I posted before. If she doesn't eat much when you get her, then wet her kibble with warm water to bring out the smell-a problem I had with my pup fpr a good 3 weeks! Have some Nutrical in case! I spent sleepless nights worrying about her eating! What age will you get her at? Make sure she is really weaned and eating well. My pup was just over 8 weeks, but would have been better to have spent 2 more weeks with mum! |
She will be ready to come home at 8 weeks, but she is the smallest of the litter and she might have to spend a little extra time with her mom before I can bring her home. What are some of the problems that occur if you bring them home to early? |
The problem I had was that she wasn't really eating.Don't know if it it was the change of home, the 5 hour car journey or that she wasn't properly weaned yet. She didn't eat well for 3-4 weeks. The vet of course was no help! |
Yeah I have a yorkiepoo too. :) Her name is moose she is the light colored one in my avatar. I have pictures of her in my photo album too. There's not much difference. Is your's half and half? Moose is 3/4 yorkie 1/4 poodle. She has the yorkie face and body. Her tail, legs and ears are poodle Her hair is a bit of both. She is my little baby and lifesaver. Michelle, Moose and Lil Bear |
If you are going to see her soon, take a little fleecy blanket with you to give to the breeder. So when you take her home, you can have the blanket with the smell of her mum and littermates on it, I think it helps to settle them when you get her home.Get some peepads and a nice cosy little bed that she settle into. I brought a little bed with me when I went to pick up lottie and she snuggled into it the whole way home. |
3 Attachment(s) Here are some new pics of her. I got to see her today and it was so much fun! Thanks for all the help guys..... |
