Nerve Damage to my puppy??? does anyone know how nerve damage is treated or if it is treatable? My 6 month old yorkie hit his leg on the chair as he was running and has been scooting around and mostly sitting and crying. We've been to 5 vets in total who all say nothing is broken. The last vet who seems to be on the right track did a blood test which showed his muscle enzyme level to be much higher than normal which means he has muscle inflamation. He is on Dex Solution and a type of pain killer. It's only been 48 hours since he started the meds but I'm worried that he could have nerve damage. The vet said to wait it out and see how he does with the meds but if they don't work within the week, maybe an MRI. I'm reading all kinds of crazy things about nerve damage and getting really worried. Does anyone have any advice? |
pup Yorkies can recover very fast and surpirse us. When did this happen? IF it was just recenlty give him time to heal..they get all sorts of muscle pulls and sprains.Pat |
It has been 2 weeks already! The first vet we went to said that since the xrays show no broken bones, they think that it was just a bruise. Then when we went for a second opinion and they found a tiny infection on his pee pee which he probably got from holding in his urine while he wasn't feeling good. They gave him antibiotics...now just last week we went BACK and this vet did the blood work and told us about the muscle enzymes. I'm just afraid its nerve damage. I'm going nuts. |
I HOPE/pray its not nerve damage I have had a terrible expierence with that will the littla man put any pressure on it at all? and when you pinch between his toes HARD can he feel it? |
Oh, you poor thing! I know it's very easy to get scared over everything it could or couldn't be. Since your puppy wasn't on medication right away, at least I'm presuming that is probably the case since the other vet just checked for breaks...now that he is on a meds, hopefully he will improve! I will pray for your little sweetie! Try to think positive, though I know it's hard! Hugs to you and your baby! |
Thank you so much everyone. My heart is braking over this. I can't even hang out with my husband because my mind is on this. I just want him to get better already. He does put pressure on it. He does walk on it actually, but just from one room to the other, then he cries and squats down. He has feeling in his leg. |
Puppy sprain My pup had hurt her leg pretty bad it seemed, because my daughter had put her on the bed and the dog paniced and jumped off. She yelped so loud I thought the dog broke her neck. Any way she had limped and cried constantly over the pain in her leg. Long story short it turned out she had sprained her little leg pretty bad, but with time she got to using it again and I hope that is the case with your doggy. I mean they can get hurt and because they are small it takes longer to heal then a bigger dog. GOOD LUCK SWEETY. :animal-pa |
yes, I agree with giving him time to heal. My Maddy hurt her leg a couple weeks back it took almost 2 weeks for it to heal.. sometimes their nerves just get cramped together and it takes awhile to undo.. my vet gave us some powder called "platnium" or something like that to help make her bones stronger.. he also suggested vitamin D and to give her warm massages to her leg to help relieve some of the stress, hope this helps...... |
