Sometimes seems overwhelming! I was just reading the thread about the hawks and owls and was thinking that there are so many dangers out there for our yorkies that I am sometimes overwhelmed at all the safeguarding I am always trying to do! We have to be on the alert at all times...big dogs attacks, chocolate, wild mushrooms, hawks, eagles or owls, accidents with slamming doors, falling baby gates, drownings, wild animals of most any kind...and the list goes on and on! We all do our best to protect our babies from danger, but accidents happen and every now and then we read a story of tragedy about one of the YT babies, which breaks my heart! Anyone else here get nervous about the many dangers out there for our yorkies? |
I do! I have this huge fear of anytime anyone goes in or out of the house, especially the front door. I'm always terrified my babies will run out and get lost!!! I'm probably just being paranoid, but I know what you are talking about |
Absolutely!!!!! I left Lily out on her leash this morning. Didn't think I would be gone all that long and as Murphy's law is alive and well, I was gone most of the day. My mind was totally consumed with if she was safe being outside. I worry most about her getting her leash tangled and choking her self. I can't rest easy unless she is with me. |
I am so nervous about everything when it comes to Cali. My pom is so big i never had to worry about her like I do Cali and Maya will not run away she can be out with me for hours and just lay in the shade. |
Yes we live in the country so Im scared to let them go out. I have a kennel right out side my door. But I even hate letting them in it. It also scares me when they get to running and playing in the house im afraid they will get hurt from jumping and all. |
We have a gated backyard and I also worry about Kiki. I have owned Rotts before getting Kiki and the Rotts seemed to get sick and have things happen to them more then Kiki. Kiki is my little trooper. He is a lot tougher then I imagined. I do understand how you all feel, because they are so small and there are a lot of dangers out there. |
Me too! I know. I am so paranoid about everything... Now that Gracie experienced a broken leg, it is even worse. My husband almost begged the vet to put another splint on her today for fear of her hurting it again. I won't let her go into the the backyard by herself for more than 30 seconds. I have never been this overprotective of a dog before. I guess it is because they are so little and fragile. They are such sweet little babies. I love them so much! |
Yes, sometimes there just does seem like there's a ton of things we have to be careful about. I think most Yorkie parents do great jobs with their little ones. Accidents will happen and can happen to anyone, no matter how careful a Yorkie parent is. We've been very lucky in that the little accidents Yoda has had has not been serious in any way. We have a complete respect for all Yorkie parents. :) |
We have Great threads about dangers... This was posted last year http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ht=safety+tips 5 pages of people sharing the many dangers to yorkies that they know of :) YORKIE Saftey Tips by Yorkietalk members - copied from last year -------------------------------------------------------------------------- There's LOTS of new puppy moms and dads here - yorkies are perpetual puppies and these can be real dangers to them.....The first thing is to PUPPY PROOF your home....just like you would a toddler. :) Always watch out when closing a door - yorkies are FAST and can easily get hurt if the door gets closed on them Always keep windows in the car up - they can jump ! Keep ALL medication out of reach - WAY out of reach ..I read where a yorkie got into Birth Control pills that were in someones PURSE - as someone who used to have diet pills in my purse - that was SCARY and sad to read Some Nylon Collars can be shredded and unwind if your yorkie ever gets it off - they can get lodged in their intestines Fences need to be constantly checked - yorkies can dig and watch for holes - they can get out or big dogs can reach in Ponds and pools are a danger...use extreme safety measures - some yorkies do NOT swim Big BIRDS or Hawks around your home is always something to watch out for Always supervise your yorkie around childern - accidents can happen in a second Certain Rawhide Chews can be a danger to yorkies - Greenies are now a problem...there are warnings about them on the news Most of us have been very lucky - but others have gone thru the devestation of losing their yorkie .... just a heads up to remember to keep your yorkie SAFE ! __________________ Villette, Chanel & Cheri say NO to PuppyMills [/I] |
Pray For... The Yorkie guardian angels to look over them. :angel2dl: |
I can relate! Boy, I share your pain on this one! I am such an over-protective yorkie mom with mine. I hate to even have their feet touch the grass for fear of fleas or ticks or parasites then I hate to let them get too far ahead on the leash for fear of any danger. But then I have to stop and think that is mostly in my head and just let them be dogs sometimes. I do the best I can to be on my toes, ready to scoop them up at any sight of possible danger. We love our babies SO MUCH, don't we?? All we can do is protect them as best we can, but the world can't stop turning, I guess. :) |
How do you know which rawhide chews are okay and which are not? |
Yes it's overwhelming at times! We need eyes in the back of our heads with these little ones. They are so fast and get into the most impossible things when your not looking  |
I Am Not Alone This makes me feel so good. I am always worried about my baby. My 5 pd I dont worry so much but this new guy at 2 pds I am so protected even who picks him up because his name is zip for a reason. He loves to jump out of your arms when he wants something. How big is everyones babies? |
