concerned Hey all my neihboors bought a pit bull and there son is teaching it to be mean i dont know if i should take my dogs outside they are so so so small and i am really worried if that dog is going to harm my dogs. i heard pit bulls can be really mean. |
Please, Please be very careful. My friend's yorkie was killed by her neighbors pitbull. She knew the neighbor and the dog. She was locked out of her house and asked her neighbor if she can call her husband to tell him she was locked out. While on the phone with her husband, the pitbull viciously took the yorkie from her hand. |
omg well i dont know me and my husband where talking about moving anyway but we have to wait untill he comes back home. |
I would never allow my dogs outside alone, for safety's sake. Keep a close eye on them. If their son is teaching the dog to be mean, that isn't a good omen. I've heard that pit bulls can be wonderful pets in the right hands, so better to err on the side of caution. That's what I would do. |
Even big dogs that are not trained to be mean can go after yorkies or other small dogs. I think it depends on there instincts. Like some dogs are rabbit dogs so they might think a yorkie is a rabbit. I would keep my distance from that pitt bull nice or not it may view your little one has something to be hunted. I have nothing against pit bulls I think they are misunderstood and misraised. Also if you see their son trying to make the dog mean I report them to animal abuse (depending on what he's doing to make it mean). |
1 Attachment(s) My neighbors had one for a short while. ......it wanted to EAT my girls and I was scared to death. We have a completely fenced in yard. Well....it started chewing thru my fence  EVERYDAY I was hammering and boarding my fence on that side till I ran out of boards and it looked like a drunk Carpenter did it. I joked to my husband my fence looked like I was prepared for an Alien Invastion.....so.....To lighten my mood about my AWFUL fence....I really made THIS BANNER and it stayed up till the rain washed it off.... Does this fence picture tell you how I feel about pitt bulls ? |
I agree with Ponyup! Report at the first sign of training it to be aggressive. |
I agree with Amanda - it's not a good sign if the boy is training the dog to be mean. If the boy is training the dog to attack, perhaps you could report it to the authorities so they are at least aware of what's going on. There are pitbull fans who testify to their dog's good nature, but with so many horror stories, I'm personally just not comfortable around them. Queen Elizabeth had a Welsh Corgi killed by her daughter's pitbull. The initial report said it was the same pitbull that had attacked a 10 yr old boy - later changed to say it was her other pitbull, probably to save the first dog's life. Anyway, I'd be concerned too. Is there a way to fence in an area so it's out of sight/out of reach? I feel for you. We have a German Shepherd who's let loose in our neighborhood. So far, he's stayed away & been a barking nuisance. If he comes here, though, I'll be calling the dog warden right away. Lousy pet owners make lousy neighbors! |
oops...just to clarify: WE DON'T have a shepherd...THERE IS a shepherd let loose in our neighborhood. It's "owner" lives on another street & the dog comes around to our road. |

Bottom line is don't take any chances. |
It breaks my heart to know that pit bulls have such a bad rap. I don't think it has a darn thing to do with the fact that it is a pit..the problem is that ANY dog that is trained to be mean can be a danger. I would report it because it isn't fair to that poor pit..the kid will make it mean teach it to hurt or kill then the pits going to do what it was taught to do then it's going to be put down for being vicious..that's not fair to the dog..so i would report it now so maybe that poor pit has a chance to get into a home that knows how to treat this WONDERFUL breed. I just lost my pit bull to cancer..best do I have EVER EVER had.. |
Ginger’s "boyfriend" is a pitbull; he’s a doll though. It’s just my experience with them, but I think they are just like any other dog; their behavior reflects how they’ve been trained. So yeah, I agree with everyone else, if that boy is teaching it to be aggressive then you could have a problem. I would build up my fence like Villette’s. |
I will be very careful and only take your pups outside when supervise. I will tell the kid parents what he is doing with the pit. If they dont do anything I will report them. |
