How do you keep them clean after being spayed Kali just had her abdominal surgery, I cannot believe the size of the incision, I am a little upset about that, it starts at her chest and goes all the way down. and they chopped all her hair even on the sides and but, but anyway, she is lifting her one leg to pee, yes she's a girl, loll and she is getting all her hair on that leg soiled. They said no bath but can i use a wet wash cloth and soak her legs down if I avoid the stitches? Any other suggestions. I tried using baby wipes and didn't seem to make it much better. Thanks |
I just used puppy wipes. Can you use a waterless shampoo? My groomer recommended waterless shampoo a few months ago because Max and Abbie kept getting a grimy film on their hair when they would come in from the outside and roll around on the carpeting. It was from the calcuim chloride on the sidewalks. I bought some but I haven't used it. You just spray it on, rub it in and work up a lather, then use a towel to wipe it off, and then blow dry. Not sure if it works but you don't use water at all so you should be able to keep the incision dry. |
Patti, you might consider (now don't get mad :p ) shaving the inside of her back legs. It would be real hard to see and it would help keep that area clean. All of her hair will grow back :) |
I shave the inside of Pixie's legs for the sake of hygiene. You can't see it at all and I bet you wouldn't even realize it unless I told you! Plus, as another nice Bonus, I don't have to worry about brushing under there either! :D I looked at your incision picture and I think my vet actually shaved about as much of Pixie as yours did Cali (and her incision wasn't nearly as big as Cali's!) It's probably grown back about 3/4 of an inch now. I almost didn't mind because then all her yucky nappy puppy hair was taken off. Everything that has grown back is nice and silky. |
I know a lot of us want to keep our little Yorkies clean and smelling good all the time. I would use the baby wipes - or gently hose off her legs with warm water in the sink... and then gently pat her dry. But - I think she will probably heal fast - and to some extent, for this short period of time, I think we can clean them as best and gently as we can, but forgive them for not being as clean or smelling as good as we like them to be. They will be just fine soon - and back to their regular baths and care. Carol Jean |

I can't believe her incision is that big...Cheri just had her surgery about 6 months ago and it was a tiny little line...but they sure did shave alot of hair to do it. Is she feeling better ? I would try the warm water or baby wipes...something really gentle that won't make her itch later. |
