What is a Good Vet?? We're always talking about what makes a good breeder....or a good Yorkie owner. How about what makes a good Vet? What do you look for in a vet? What do you NOT want in your vet? I'm finally switching my vet, so I'm shopping around at the moment. So please let me know the good to hope for and the bad to watch out for. |
Let's see...in MY opinion, a good vet is one that is personable, is friendly, talks to my babies. A good vet will answer all of my questions and if he/she doesnt' know the answers right away, they will find the answers and get back to me. A good vet will be someone that I can get a hold of either personally or by answering service even if it's 3 in the morning or on a Sunday afternoon. Good vets are knowledgable and don't start of answers with..."WELL, I THINK THAT..."...had to stop using that one. There are many aspects to a good vet. I have one in particular that is a gem. He's wonderful and has such a sense of humor. He's someone that I can relate to and don't feel intimidated by. |
btw...love your avatar! ;) |

:D Thanks!!!! |
good vets are priceless. when many other vets suggested tucker wouldn't live, or he desperately needed a risky and costly surgery, our vet was there. he helped us tremendously and has found a way for us to maintain tucker's liver shunt and give him a happy, healthy, comfortable way of life. i like vets who are friendly and never hesitate with questions. it is comforting to know they know how to help. look for a vet who you can tell is completely and totally focused on the health of your baby and what is best for them. good luck in your search :) |
A vet that still has the "Passion". |

Also remember vets are only human and they can make mistakes too. |

OMGosh...I see that you live in New Jersey....I have an amazing vet in Fairfield, NJ....He LOVES animals and always makes you feel like your pet is the most important in the world...He meets you in the middle of the night to avoid you having to go to the ERvet.....He called me in Scotland to give me the results of an important test so that I wouldn't worry about Vivi on my vacation(I did anyway, but thats my issue  )When I offered to pay for the call he said no!!!!!! He always listens to your concerns and patiently answers all of your questions regardless of how silly they may sound. My dog loves him and gets excited when she goes to the vet or hears his name. He really is fantastic and I highly rrecommend him...His name is Silas Ashmore DVM and he is in Fairfield, NJ. 973-227-7789 :) :) :)   |
a good vet.... I learned the hard way when my older Boston was VERY sick in the middle of the night. My vet had a voicemail and NEVER called back! We picked up the phone book, found a number out of desparation. The VET answered the phone, met us there in 15 mins., was VERY nice to us and my sick pup. He called us the next day himself to check on TBone. We have since moved Tootie and all dogs(4) to him, he is great and very concerned about the welfare of our pups... |
