Vaccines Have any of you done your own vaccinations? I found the vaccines on-line for much much much cheaper than what you would pay at the vet. My puppy is 13 weeks old and is due for some vaccines. My husband & I are in the medical field so it would be no problem administering the vaccines. Any recommendations? |
I think giving a vaccine to a dog...is much different. They are much cheaper...so are flea and tick meds |
We do our shots/wormings. Not only is it cheaper, but I can give it to them in the evening after I'm through running the kids around everywhere they need to go. But, before they go to their forever home, they are vet checked and health certificated. |

My sister used to raise Shih Tzus and she did her own vaccinations. I don't think that I could do it. My aunt as done it a couple of times as well. Doesn't look like there is much too it. If you are use to giving vaccinations I would most definitely go for it. Have you tried your local Farm Bureau. That's where my aunt & my sister got theirs from. |

Do you have to be certified for any of these vaccines, I mean to give them and have your records be valid that you did them yourself? |

Yes!!! No lepto!! Revival has good prices - bugaboosmom suggested them - they are very nice and shipped everything perfectly!! They even have Nutra-stat for only $3.19!! :D |

There are hardly any puppy shots mfg.. with Lepto anymore but it is wise to always check. And yes, we do give the corona as does our vet. But the lepto is definitely a no-no |
I give my own shots and do the worming on all mine, even bordetella. I use the Galaxy shots. And I use to use Revival but now I get them at Med Vet which still beats Revivals prices. Never give Lepto and I don't do Corona unless I am in an area where it needs to be given which is actually never. |
I have a needle phobia, but my Mom is a nurse so she gives mine their parvo, distemper, etc. combination shots. Here in El Paso only vets can give rabies. Also, most boarding places will not accept "your word" and require that vets give all shots. They have to stay refrigerated so I am sure the shipping is expensive online. We just buy ours at a veterinary supply or livestock and feed supply locally. It is given subcutaneously not intravenously - don't know if my spelling is correct - anyway, under the skin not in the vein! |
One other thing I would like to say... is to never give or have all shots given at the same time (the annuals and rabies)..it's to hard on the system and will make alot of Yorkies very sick. |
