Help..puppy Is Ripping Up Wee Wee Pad!!! :( this is something new...he never did this before. |
While I was in PetSmart yesterday I saw something that supposedly stops them from doing this. Its just this plastic square frame. I think maybe there's a top piece and a bottom piece and they snap together around the edges of the pad so the pup can't tear them up. I haven't ever used it so I don't know if it works and I believe its just for the disposible pads, but if this is what you are using it may work. Someone else may know more about it though. Just thought I'd share what little I did know. |
Mason used to tear up the pads too. He would only do it when I leave him alone at home. I bought the frame like Courtney described - it worked a little but Mason could still tear up the pad if he wanted to. The key is to keep your puppy busy. It seemed to me that Mason only shredded the pad when he was home alone and bored. SO I started leaving toys that kept him occupied (I recommend Kong) and he eventually stopped. He has not touched the pad in at least 3 months..... good luck :) |
Maybe you could try using the washable ones, you have to be careful with the disposable ones because if they are ripping them up they could choke on it! My breeder said the washable one's are really good. But I dont use them because I take mine outside, so I couldnt tell you first hand how well they work. Just a suggestion :D |
pads I can not use disposable pads with pups around...that cottony stuff gets in their hair and everywhere, some even swallow it..I find it easier to use washable pads and newspaper until they are older. |
Stewie tore up his pad twice (with urine on them) when I had to leave him alone for more than five hours. Maybe its separation anxiety. |
i am having the same problem with nala. i ordered a frame that you put the pee pad in from petsmart. it was about $20.00. it won't be here until monday but i recommend trying one of those b/c they won't be able to get a hold of the ends and that's what nala went straight for! |
Spent the money, bought the disposable pads, bought the frame, put the doggies down to play and use it !!! Yeah, right. The first quarter size pee spot and I had cotton confetti all over the place..You might have some luck with only 1 dog but most likely you are gonna be disappointed. These Yorkies have thoughts all their own. I now use washable wee pads and they work until I bring a new baby in. Then, I start all over again. There is a Co. in FL who recycles the washable bed pads and I love 'em. Of course, that could also have something to do with the fact that I am an old nurse from the days when that was all we used in hospitals and such..If you would like the addy for the providers gimme a PM unless it is okay to post it..just let me know.. |
