Word gets around fast that you have a yorkie My mom told me about a phone call she got yesterday. Out of area showed on the caller I.D. She said it was a man and he was calling all the way from Monroe, Louisiana. Monroe is at least a 6 hour drive from here. We live on the Gulf Coast-an hour drive southwest of New Orleans. Monroe is in the northernmost portion of the state. He was asking about our yorkie and asked if we were going to breed her. My mom says no we are not. As soon as she is old enough, we are getting her spayed. Then, she says the man has been looking all over for a yorkie. But, because of their popularity, he has not been able to find one. My mom says she gave the man our breeder's phone number. But, our breeder says she is not breeding Chloe's mom Tandy anymore. The litter we got Chloe from was going to be it. But, she owns another male yorkie Buddy and she breeded him with a friend of hers yorkie. The puppies were probably born already. I told my mom she should of asked him how he even got our number or knew we owned a yorkie. I was not home but at work when he called. I think it is weird. I never give out my number on the net or to anyone else that I don't know. I always worried since yorkies are so popular, that someone could try to steal Chloe! |

that sounds seriously suspect - is your lil one microchipped?? |
no, she is not microchipped. If he lives 6 hours away, it would be impossible to find our home. I live in a very tiny town of only about 5,000 people if that much. It barely even shows up on a map. The only way I think that he may have gotten my number is this. When I was searching for my yorkie, I had an internet ad out on Louisiana Classifieds that stayed up for a couple of months. Of course, I had to include my phone number for any breeders to contact me. When I found our breeder on the site and knew Chloe was definitly going to be ours, I deleted the ad. |
hmmm that is a little to weird. I would be looking at getting a chip. |
There are websites that if you type in a phone number it will give directions right to your home. |

oh and congrats on ur new little one :) |
You can never be too careful. I would definitely get your baby microchip and would make sure to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity around my home. |
My mom thinks that I am overreacting and paranoid. She says the man just wanted to know if we planned on breeding our yorkie. That he has been looking all over for a yorkie and has not been able to find one. I did not find Chloe overnight myself. I had a VERY hard time finding one and I live in a way smaller area than he does. It was nearly 6 months before I knew Chloe was going to be ours. I told my mom that I am not overreacting. I know how everyone wants yorkies these days. And I will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Yes, it is scary that mapquest can give you directions to your house. I never put my address up on the net, but living in a very small town, it would not be that hard to find. I don't even think my mom should of gave our breeders phone number to him. Because she only lives 5 miles away from us. And I don't think she will appreciate some stranger calling asking about her yorkies from 6 hours away. I wish I would of been home, so I could of answered the phone myself. My mom is way too trusting. And I am not. It is nearly impossible for me to trust anyone these days. |
I live in NY and yorkies are dognapped all the time. One story was in Central park..... a man walked up to the dog on the leash....bent down to pet it...... whipped out a pair of scissors and cut the lead and in one quick swoop.... grabbed the yorkie and ran. Never found the guy. It was on the news years ago. I was in Central Park onec and a lady kept following me. I would turn to look at her and she would pretend to look elsewhere..... but she kept following me..... I didn't let my baby down .... I was holding her the whole time and I think she was waiting for me to put her down. ALL my dogs are microchipped but I am still very careful about people. Not to make you nervous but he could have lied to your mom about where he is or his intentions. Be careful. :eyebrow2: |
Go here and type your home phone number in and geez someone can get directions to your home. http://www.whitepages.com/10001/reverse_phone |
That is very strange...and very scary. |
This is far too scary to me!!!! Keep a REAL,REAL close eye on your baby. I would not leave her home alone-do you have an alarm system? If your mom thinks you are over-reacting, do an archive search and let her read the heart-breaking stories on this site.. I will not list my puppies for sale on YT because of all of the info that must be included and right out there for the public to see. It takes longer to sell them, but I feel safer..Maybe adm could handle that info differently.. |
I agree with what others have said....keep a close eye on your precious baby! Although it could be nothing more than a nice man inquiring, it is rather scary. BTW: I live in Vicksburg which is 80 miles east of Monroe (we are right on the MS River). If he truly were looking for a breeder, I know from searches on the net that there are in fact breeders in his area - I just don't know of their reputation. I guess that's what gets me the most is that he said there were no breeders in his area. Monroe is a bigger place than Vicksburg and I know of 2 breeders in my area....I just can't imagine there not being any where he's at. Congrats on your baby. |
it's scary, and even if he gets chipped, how would you find him, if someone steal the yorkie they are mostly likely gonna have them in the house and way from the public view. I'm getting mine microchiped tomorrow, but that still scares me Patricia |
If his number didn't come up on caller ID, he could be from ANYWHERE!!! You have no way of knowing for certain that he is 6 hours from you. reversephonedirectory.com will give him your name and address . . . mapquest.com will give him directions to you. Pyschos are not just in other people's lives . . . you never know when you could be the target. Keep Chloe safe. It could have been a test to see if anyone was home. You just never know. |
What a scary thought!! Wow, I can't believe someone got your number and found out about your Yorkie. It must have been some one from your community who pretended to be from far away. I would have been terrified and I wouldn't have given so much information about the dog breeder or anything to do with the dog. I would have said wrong number and hung up!! I live in NY and I would feel terrible if something happened to this dog. I love my animals and when they are gone I grieve them and it's terrible to think that someone would steal these beautiful little guys I don't even want to take her outside it's so scary. Do u have to pay to have the micro chip put in? My sister has her cats microchipped because they are from the aspca. Does it hurt?? :animal-pa :( |
This is very scary. Everyone here is right. This guy could've been at the pay phone near your house. Who knows? Microchipping is a good idea. My baby got out when we first moved and she had a collar and tags on with our old address. I looked all over the town for her. Then a person stopped and asked me if I was looking for a cat or a dog. I told her a yorkie. She didn't know what that was so I showed her a picture in a magazine I had of a yorkie. She said "Oh, my next door neighbor just got one of those today."I asked her where her neighbor was. She told me and it happened to be a block from my house. I went to their house and inquired about the yorkie. They said it was theirs. I said "well, mine had a purple butterfly collar on with the address and phone #." She said oh, well it's not yours then this one didn't have a collar on. I said o.k. mine is also microchipped. The lady ran in the house and got my dog! Just mentioning your dog is microchipped scares alot of people into not wanting your dog. Good luck. :aimeeyork |
No more phone calls or strange things have happened since that one phone call. Again, I did not answer the phone. If I would of answered it, I would of probably said sorry I am busy right now and hung up. My mom did not give our breeders number, but she should of not gave him her name. Because he could easily look it up. It is impossible to be with Chloe all the time because I work. And we have an illness in the family (my grandpa) and my mom and dad have to take turns staying with him. It is impossible to be home 24 hours a day. But, I do worry about it a lot. I am very protective over Chloe. |
