Age in which ears stand up At what age do yorkie's ears typically begin to stand up? Any suggestions on how to ensure they do? |
i also wonder when will my Genki's ear stand up.. she is now almost 3 mothes..but so far i still didn't take her to any grooming yet..cuz she only got her second shot..and she had some bad days....so..i am also kinda of worry when will her ear stand up... |
Our Toto's ears were standing up when we got her at 16 weeks. The breeder said they had just "popped" up! :) That's my only "ear experience" so hopefully there will be other members who have dealt with ear issues. Good luck! ;) |
I need help too Chance is 16 weeks old and he has one ear up and one ear down. I tried to tape his one ear but he manages to get the tape off every time. Will his ear stay like that or will it go up? |
dont worry eventually they both will stay up... lexi's ears would do that too.. one up, one down, drove me nutso... i would say she was around 7 months before her both ears stayed up.... make sure you get them trimmed though, it does help... |
trimming snickers ears at the groomers and shaving just the tips of them along w/massage brought her ears right up w/in literally days of doing it i still keep up the ear massage tho becuz she is teething and i have heard then can go back down when they are teething good luck |
When I first layed eyes on Chloe at the breeder home, she was only 9 days old. And I remember her ears standing up. But, after she got teeth, it went back down. She is 10 weeks old and they are still down. She is teething terribly, so I think that is why. We may bring her to our groomers to shave the excess hair when she gets up to 12 weeks, so her ears will stand. Lacey's ears did not stand up until 6 months. She had floopy ears until we took her to the groomers. And they stood straight up for the rest of her life. |
I am a new Yorkie owner, our Benji is 14 weeks old, and his ears are still down as well. He was the largest of the litter, will probably be about 9 lbs., the rest of the litter all had their ears up already, so I didn't know if his size had anything to do with his ears still being down. I have shaved them, but I would like to know more about this ear massage - do you just rub them? for how long? I don't want to have to tape, and I do not want to use super glue as I have heard done. I was going to ask if anyone has heard of, or used, ear putty? But it sounds like they will eventually stand on their own. Has anyone ever not had their ears stand? |

  Super glue?!?!?!?!?! Oh no... |
I know, sounds horrible doesn't it! Don't worry - it's not an option for me, I love our little Benji, even if his ears never stand. However, I know that some vets use a type of super glue instead of stitches sometimes, and it did eventually wear off my fingers when I got some on me, so it probably isn't as bad as it sounds. But I don't like the fact that once it is done, it can't be undone for a while, unlike taping or this ear putty stuff. |
Here are a couple of websites that will help. http://members.cox.net/jrogan/ears.html http://www.shooterdog.com/alexfaq2.htm (scroll down to ear discussion) |
Do you just massage the base of the ears? |
Ears up? What do u mean when will the ears go up? I'm new to this whole yorkie family stuff, so I just figured her ears will stay down. My yorkie is gonna be 3 months in a couple of days and her ears just hang down are they supposed to point up as she gets older????? I thought some dogs had ears that point up and some had ears that hand down. Any Yorkie owners out there help me out with this one please. |
dont worry, they probably will go up eventually, lexi's ears drove me nuts. up, down, up, down, one up, one down for months..finally around7 months up they went, both ears...how, dont know,, lots of cottage cheese and massaging and praying.. |
