New Owner Seeks Sage Advice I am getting my puppy in about three weeks and I need advice! I’m reading all these books about training, nutrition, and so on and I’m starting to feel like I’m bringing a little alien into my home. I think I can handle it. However, as you know, most of the information I’m reading is generic. I noticed the thread about “greenies,” how they are addictive and how some of you are switching over. That made me think “maybe there are other warnings veteran yorkie owners can share with a newbie like me” - you know, stuff that’s not going to show up in a book. FYI - I did a lot of research on breeders until I found one that checked out. I am getting health insurance on the little tyke, I have a vet, and I do have a schedule for walks and feeding. I am, as they say, trying to do it by the book. With that said – what else should I know that isn’t in the “book?” |

I guess that is the biggest thing I'm dealing with right now, she is hard to train. |
That's great Enikuo, it's always good to read and learn as much as you can before you get your Yorkie baby. That said, there will be some things that you just don't expect or know about until it comes about. When that happens, you can just post on YorkieTalk and ask. ;) I would recommend an emergency first aid kit for your baby if you haven't gotten one yet, along with some Nutrical in case they get hypoglycemic. You may also want to get a car seat too. We'd love to see pictures of your little one after you get him or her. :) |
Welcome and congratulations!! You are in for a real treat! We researched and studied before we brought Toto home at 16 wks. and now .... we are still learning new things [Toto will be 3 years old in July!!]! Can't wait to see pics and hear all about your little one! ;) |
It's great to be prepared!! Welcome to YT! You are going to love being a yorkie mommy! There are many things you just won't discover until you get your baby - like with all babies (human and otherwise) they all have their own personalities and you may have to tweak your technique for different things. Like everyone has said you learn new things day to day and it sounds like you have done an awesome job getting ready for your little bundle!! Can't wait to see your baby grow up!! :D |
SOunds like you will be a great yormie mommie! YAyay!!!! No matter how many books you read and advise you get, it will be different! They have their own personalitites and learn differently and have their own agenda! Hahah But it sure sounds like you are on the right track and doing all your homework!!! And if you have any questions along the way--we are all here!!!! You will be just fine!!! Yayayayayay!!!!!! So 3 weeks!!! I hope it goes by fast for you!!!!!!! |
One thing I learned is to make sure that you get a harness for your baby so that you dont put pressure on their little tracheas.. good luck with your baby! I can't wait to see pictures ;) |
