Non-Barking Yorkie I know that yorkies are very vocal dogs, but my puppy who is 23 weeks old rarely barks and when she does its not a full bark it sounds sort of muffled. I just wanted to know if anybody else has heard of pupps acting like this? |
Be happy for small blessings. I have one that didn't bark until he was 1 1/2 year old. Then I couldn't shut him up. Spend 6 months teaching him the "quiet" command. Still have problem getting him to stop when he is extremely excited. |
One of mine is just a couple of weeks older and has never barked either... he just whines sometimes when we leave the house. I think he will start learning because we just got another yorkie and she barks at any strange noise which is nice too... since my husband hasen't fixed the door bell yet(5months)! ;) |
:) In my experience they rarely do bark as pups - our 8 month old is just starting now but before that it was a very odd noise indeed - sort of a muffled noise just as you described!! I still think that our Gizzie needs "voice lessons!" Ana xx |
barkers I had a wonderful girl who never barked, infact she lived with my daughter in a no-pet condo. Now I have her daughters and grandddaugthers and they rarely bark..infact I have never heard her daughter, Mini bark at all and she is 6 in May..hard to believe. These wonderful girls make up for the non-stop barkers I listened to for years. |
Pita rarely barks, but she can! She does a grrrrrRUF thing if she really wants attention. One time a friend brought her pitbull over and he was out by the pool and she was inside and she was REALLY barking! We were all amazed, she's 21 weeks, and she's never done it since. Other than that, she's really quiet. |
Wow what's that not a lot of barking like???? Lil Bear loves to bark even when she was a pup, we were lucky to have seen her just a week after she was born till we got to take her home at 13 weeks, she had an eagle cry and then bark, bark, bark. Now moose when I brought her home didn't make much more than a whine...that is till my dad start barking at her :rolleyes: and now at 2 months barks A LOT though not as much as Lil Bear..thankfully. I thank my dad every day for his lesson so now I get to train her quiet. |
Mojo barely barks, growls or make any noise...actually i am the one that intigates him to bark when we are playing...he is such a good boy but i know i got really lucky!! |
Fred doesn't bark that much either, and when he does.. it's more like a low-toned bark just to alert us that he wants to play. We play and then he'll go and stretch all fours out and we don't hear a word from him until he wants to play again which is usually before bedtime! |
Hefner barks a little more than I'd like but it's usually for a reason. The annoying park is the incessant noise he makes when he is trying to encourage my westie to play with him. It is really irritating. The "warning" bark I like unless it's in the middle of the night because he saw a wild rabbit out the window!! I haven't really heard Chai full on bark yet. She is 16 weeks and we have only had her a week so I am sure I just need to give her time. What is the easiest way to teach the "quiet command"? I know this probably belongs in training but I just thought I'd ask it here to see if any trainers will give advice. |
Stewie has only barked twice. Once at the dog in Finding Neverland and once at the vet. I love it. |
Well, I can't relate. My pup barked from the start. Now he howls. We think he developed this howling because we used to have Basset Hound. Who knows! Anyway, it's hilarious and so cute! |
I will never forget my first experience with a Yorkie howler..we were in bed asleep upstairs, and I heard a sound that sounded just like my neighbor's cat. We had an electronic garage door opener and I was so sure we had locked the cat in the garage. I stormed downstairs uttering bleeps and hit the button, raised the door, yelled "SHOO!SHOO!" and put the door back down. Stomped back upstairs, get back into bed and by gawsh, I heard that darned cat again. So, I repeat the previous exercise in futility, sure I had chased the little bugger out, only to hear it for a third time. Okay, I am dense!! Yes, it took 3 times before I decided I would stand at the bottom of the stairs to pinpoint the origin. Well, Yorkies 1; Mom 0! It was a 3 lb male Yorkie in the Xpen in the kitchen. He has passed the howling trait on to every generation of puppies after him in his line. I had another male who had a specific bark pattern. That boy passed the pattern around and everyone of my dogs have the same pattern and they are unrelated.. |
