Yorkie Questions Hi Everyone, I’m new to this forum and looking for a little guidance. I am not a dog owner, but am in a place in my life now where I feel I can finally be one! I’ve been doing research on different types of dog breeds for months now and just can’t make up my mind. I have always thought that Yorkies were adorable little dogs, but I'm not sure if one is right for my situation. I’m in my early 20s and am a working professional. I work 8 hours a day, but I’m lucky enough to live 10 minutes from where I work so I come home every day for lunch. I’m looking for a breed that would be okay with a little alone time during the day (with lots of love at night) and would eventually be accepting of children and potentially another dog. With your experience with your Yorkies do you think that we would be a good match? Thanks!! :) |
:wavey: Welcome to YT!!!! It's great your researching before you pick your breed. I think you would make a great Yorkie Mom. We have lots of moms who work. :) :) :) :) |
Hello! I'm pretty new to this forum as well. I may be partial...but I firmly believe that Yorkies are the best dogs in the world! |
Welcome aboard! My little girl is alone durning the day and she does just fine in her crate, but it's important to start them in a crate at a yound age, so they will be use to it. When I get home from work she is just so excited to see me, her little tail wags a mile a minute, and she knows I';m excited to see her as well. If your looking for a dog that you can hold and tag along with you where ever you go, then the Yorkie is for you! But remember they require some attention as far as grooming goes, I give Kloey a bath a week and I brush her hair once a day, I usually take her on a 15 min walk, sometimes longer. But there pretty entergetic dogs and they have a lot of energy to burn. Then I groom her myself once a month, (trim hair, nails, ears etc). There hair gets nice and long so you want to keep it brushed daily to avoide matting. But this breed is a wonderful loving breed. Good luck and keep us posted ! |
Hi and welcome to YT. I am very bias but I honestly never knew love from an animal like I have with my Georgie. They are great companions and will give you unconditional love and affection:) |
Welcome to YT!! My little Zeus is home by himself all day, along with 2 fat cats, and he does just fine. He is just happy to spend time with us when we get home. I think you would be so happy to have a yorkie! They are wonderful!! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk! Glad to have you hear! I have 2 yorkies and I am 20 years old! I leave my girls home during the day sometimes when I am at work but I come home for lunch and they are just fine! Yorkies are a very special breed and I think that you would really enjoy having a yorkie in your life. Also my 2 are around little kids all the time and they are ok with it! You just really have to keep an eye on them bc they can break bones really easy they are little dogs and very fragile! |
I think they get used to whatever they need to but these dogs probably love people more than any dog I have ever been around. They do okay home alone, but other dogs probably do better. If you decide on one I would advise you to get one that is larger vs. the tiny version. The little ones can't be left that long and they are too fragile for small children. Most of these dogs are pretty active so a walk and play time is required...unless you want a nutty dog at bedtime. Get two at once  then they can wear each other out. |
Nice to see that you are putting a lot of thought into this. My suggestion would be, If you can afford 2, I would get 2, so they would have company while you're at work. As for the breed itself, they are almost like having a baby. They want to be wherever you are. Good luck |
