7 hour drive with a new 10 week old Yorkie??? We go to pick up Chance on Saturday evening. We will stay over night with my sister and then drive down Sunday morning. After I give him some breakfast, we will hit the road... :( The Problem is---- its a 6 hr drive... :( What do I give him??? How often should we stop??? Do we give water??? I have the nutra-cal, car seat and a warm blanket... |
When I picked up my baby we had a 9 hour drive. She was fine she slept nearly the whole way on my lap in the passenger seat on a blanket. We stayed ovenight in a motel. Just make sure you take lots of supplies- Newspaper, blankets, food containers, toys. A crate of some sort is great too. I wouldn't feed her too much till you get home. My girl was a bit car sick I think. I hope you enjoy your road trip, It is so exciting with a new baby!! Have fun. |
We had a 4 hour drive and Georgie slept almost the entire time, we stopped once at a rest area for him to use the potty and drink some water. Just lots of love and attention throughout the trip to make sure your baby is comfortable. Best of luck and congrats :D |
Make sure you give your pup water on that long of a car ride. I wouldn't feed that much because they could get an upset tummy like most do. Other then that your pup is young so most likely will sleep most of the way. How exciting, Good luck! |
I just got home a week ago from a 16 hour drive :car: (we stopped at a few rest stops for a quick nap)...and I had two 10 week old puppies. I gave them water in a bowl every few hours and a few licks of Nutrical, but no food. The breeder told me the food might make them car sick...and the Nutrical would keep up their sugar level. My puppies almost slept the entire way home. We stopped at rest stops and let them potty on the sidewalk. We tried to keep them away from places other dogs may have peed or pooped. They slept in our laps...but most of the trip they snuggled together in the crate. No accidents! I was shocked at how well they did. I would bring paper towels, plastic bags, towels, crate, Nutrical, bottled water w/ dish. I brought the harness and the leash...but it just scared them. I also brought toys and they weren't really interested until we got home. They were happy to just sleep. We decided not to stop at a hotel because we figured they might just cry and we wouldn't sleep. We figured we wanted to get them home so we only took 2 hour naps twice on the way home. Good Luck and enjoy your new baby!!!!! ;) |
I got Illy when she was 8 weeks old and we had a 9 hour drive to get her. I kept her in her crate and stopped a few times to see if she had to go potty. It was really cold and she was scared so she wouldn't go. She didn't end up going potty until we got home. That was 9 hours!! Crazy puppy! LOL. Everytime we stopped I offered her food and water. She ate a little and drank a lot. It wan't a bad trip though. She pretty much slept the whole time and didn't even cry. Good luck! Have a safe trip. |
So lucky , your puppy gets to go on a trip already. My Toki has only been on 30 min car ride. hehe |
