Doggie Stairs :) Does anyone know of a reputable place to buy doggie steps? I've seen some in different stores but they're asking for almost $100 for them! Any ideas? Also, is it a good idea to use stairs or is it better to wait until they learn how to jump up on couches and beds? :aimeeyork |
Target and Walmart are carrying doggie steps now ($30.00). They are made of plastic with a sheepskin cover and work well with Yorkies. They have a 3 step and a 4 step model. You would probably need a 4 step for a bed for a small Yorkie. They also sell them online at doggiesteps.com and give the measurements. They have a big selection of different types on ebay.com. I bought a folding model because it was 17 3/4" high and I need that because mine are really little and my bed is pretty high. I bought it at wartenaschihuahuas.com ($32.00 included shipping), but I have also seen them on ebay. I think they are much better using steps then jumping and taking the risk of getting hurt and for the really small Yorkies they won't ever grow enough to be able to jump on a bed. |
Sounds like Wal-Mart and/or Target may have the same steps that I ordered online and love. I posted pictures on a thread a while back, so you can see what they look like. It's a plastic kit that is easy to assemble. Can handle up to 70 pounds. Would even work for traveling. I paid Here's the link that got me interested in them. My pictures are the last post on the first page. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32567 You can also do a search for doggysteps and find a post Waistful started that offers two sets of steps for $39. I kinda wished I'd looked into that, because I ended up ordering a second set for $29. |
I think steps are a must IMO. Georgie loves them and goes up and down like a trooper. He thought they were strange at first and we showed him how to do it a now he loves them. I got his steps from ABC distributors only to find them at Target the next week cheaper. They are well worth it though... I wouldn't want him to jump he is so small and I don't want him to hurt himself. |
Yep, Hubby and I saw them at Target last night! I almost bought a set. I may have to go back and grab a couple.... For those of you that have them.... Do you really like them? Give a review! |
I have both the wooden fold up steps (like a step ladder with cushions - 17 3/4 inches high) and the 4 step (16 inches high) plastic covered sheepskin one - the three step model is only 12 inches high. I like the folding one because it is easy to take on trips without taking it apart (only for up to 25 pounds), but I think a new puppy feels safer on the covered one (up to 70 pounds). It took all of 2 seconds for my dog to learn to use it and I love it. |
