Collar or harness? Emmy absolutely will not wear the harness. Since the first day I've had her we've tried and tried to keep it on her, but when she has it on she just doesn't move and itches it. We like to go on walks and when I take her outside to go to the bathroom I put her on a leash, but attach it to her collar. I know it's not good, but I don't know what else to do? Any suggestions? -Ashley & Emmy :aimeeyork |
Have you tried the figure eight step in style harness? They are very easy to put on and my yorkies love them. |
step in harnesses all the way |
Try the step in harness. Nikko still fights me but its so easy that you can get it on them even with them fussing. Collars are no good for their little throats and can cause damage to their tracheas. I wouldn't take the chance. |
I have never heard of a step in harness before and maybe I'll try that. What is the difference from the regular harness anyway? Any pet store would sell them right? |
go to ebay and search step in harness and you will see what they are. Not every pet store sells them - I ordered mine from the internet. |
I use step in harnesses for my dogs and the best way I can describe it is like a bra! The dogs front legs "step into the harness with the strap between the legs. It fastens on the back. Bentley will step in it himself. I got mine at Jakes Dog House. |
I never use anything that could pose as a choke risk on my baby! Either a cat collar or harness! |

I agree. I own alot of harnesses (gotta match every outfit) But step in are my fav. |
My favorite is still the Gooby suede step-in matching harness and leash. |
I use the Buddy Belts, and they're wonderful, although a bit pricey. Here's a link to the step in harnesses from PetEdge. They're almost the same as the Buddy Belts except that they aren't leather. They're a snap to put on. http://www.petedge.com/shopping/prod...ctID=1270&AS=1 Hope this helps... |
Thanks so much for all the advice! Our closest large pet store is an hour away so this weekend I will be taking a trip down there to see if I can find one, then if not order one offline! Thanks again for all the advice! -Ashley & Emmy :aimeeyork |
Harnesses are great. Ella will choke herself with a collar. A word of warning though- put them well out of reach when you are not using them. Ella went and got hers to go for a walk and chewed the plastic clip and broke it! They aren't cheap. |
Another idea is the dress/vest harnesses that have velcro closures. They are easy to put on and take off and the velcro holds strong! |
