New puppy and 7 month old...... We just brought home a new little girl named Baby who is 9 weeks old. We also have a 7 month old named Buddy. Although it's going fairly well, Buddy is quite rough with Baby and I'm not sure if I should just let them work it out, or step in and try to get Buddy to play nicer (if that's even possible). Any suggestions on bringing this new little one into Buddy's "space"? |
mine are about the same age. When I got Dixie, she was nine weeks old and Ceeby was almost seven months old. I just let them play. If I was out of the room and heard her squeal (which doesn't happen much) I run to see what is going on and usually scold Ceeby. But that was only for a couple of weeks. She is fourteen weeks old now and nearly as big as Ceeby and can hold her own against him believe me. So, I just let them play. At first he tried to play to rough and I would pick her up for a few minutes so she could rest and to disfuse the situation. |
I don't think you should be concerned about him hurting her. Littermates bite and play pretty rough; however, you have to remember that she is still a baby and is going to get tired more quickly so I would limit their playtime and increase it as she gets older. |
I'd let them play - and - keep an eye on them for a while. My 8-week-old pup drove my 21-pound Bichon crazy right from the start. He certainly could hold his own. However, my Bichon is a gentle shy dog - who wouldn't hurt anything in the world. I had another dog - a poodlepom that definitely would have hurt a little puppy for the first week or so. She was very jealous - but within a week or two, she and the new puppy, I had at that time, became fast friends - for years - for the rest of her life. I think you can tell soon whether or not your old pup might be too rough with the little pup. Carol Jean |
Too cute!!! I'd just let them play, but do keep an eye on them :) :) :) I bet in no time they will be best friends!!! :D :D :D |
