Scary, scary Oh wow. My hands are still shaking and I'm waiting for my heart to start beating again - this happened about an hour ago. The girls were outside, we've been slowly introducing Tia to the back yard finally. I was out there with them, then went to get the phone - I must have looked away for maybe 30 seconds, and that's all it took - I look back, and there's no Tia in the yard. I asked my kids if they had seen her come inside, nope. Then I notice that there is the smallest of gaps between the fence and the ground - sure enough, she had gotten out of the yard. I went over to my neighbor to see if she had somehow gotten over to their yard and she wasn't there. I went outside and began whistling her "come" whistle which we've been working on lately. I went all around the house, then went back to the back yard. Sandy was going crazy at this point as well. Mind you, I'm doing all of this on crutches. All of the sudden, Tia comes squeezing though that same hole, pleased as punch with herself. I picked her up and she was shaking and checked her gums, and of course they were pale. I gave her some nutrical (first time for that) and she seems to be fine now. Needless to say, I feel like the worst Mommy in the world right now for not having realized she could get out through that gap. My husband is picking up some things to fix it with on his way home from work. So, I had to share my story - I'm a wreck at this point. Tia is on my lap, sleeping comfortably I think. Her gums look a little better now and her breathing isn't as labored. |
YIKES! It happens to all of us, aimee, they are just so mischievous sometimes I don't think anything short of keeping them inside at all times would help you avoid little episodes like this. Did she eat something, or why would her gums be pale? Excessive amount of running? Glad to hear Tia is safe and sound on Mommy's lap now! |
Glad you Found Her Wow!! What a day you've had. I'm glad you found her. I can just imagine how panicked you were. I Hope your baby is okay now. I'm sure she is happy to be home. :) |
Phew! Glad to hear she is safe and sound! You're not a bad Mommy! These things happen. |
Aimee!! OMG!! That is my worst nightmare!! I would just die if mine turned up missing!! That is so scary!! Do not blame yourself though. We never think our little ones are going to be able to get out. Especially not that quickly!! Whoa. She must have gotten scared when she realized you guys weren't right behind her!! I bet she heard you whistling to and couldn't figure out how to find you!! Bless her heart!! I am so glad you found her safe and sound and that Daddy's goona fix the fence!! |
Thanks so much everyone. She's really not used to running around too much, so I'm assuming she must have had quite the adventure before she found her way home. What's ironic is that I consider myself so overprotective of them, then this happens and I realize how much better I could have done. It happens to the best of us, but MAN you just can't help feeling bad and thinking about what if. Thankfully she is doing great now, just doesn't want me to stop touching her, so one handed typing for me! :) You guys are the best :D |
Aimee- so glad to hear everything is ok. Quite a little adventure Tia had today. Can't believe she came in thru the same gap in the fence. Please don't be too harsh on yourself. Things happen anad they are so small they can do sooo many things we don't even see. Like on Easter- we were having the whole family over for dessert and knew we were going to be outside a bit. So I had gone out to make sure the yard was all cleaned up. I didn't want anyone to step in any poopoo. My hubby was running the vacuum and Luigi usually hides in the bedroom. So I came in from outside, and shut the door behind me not even thinking Luigi could get out. A few minutes later, he was done vacuuming and I called for Luigi and nothing. I looked everywhere and then started freakingout. Looked again everywhere, under beds, couches, even all the sinks ( he likes crawling under them in the cabinets). So I went to the front door and opened it thinking he got out anf ran away. And there he was sitting on the front porch, relaxing -probly wondering where I went. I could not believe. He got out when I came in earlier. That little sh#$*!!! So please- don't think you're a bad mommy-things happen to the best of us. From all of your posts I have ever read, you're a wonderful mommy!!! You truly take such good care of your furbabies!!! And taking care of children all the while- you are on crutches!!! You go Girl!!! Luigi sends Tia puppy kisses and love!!! And Sandy too!! :animal-sm Mandy & Luigi :animal-sm |
Thanks Mandy - you are so sweet. I really appreciate that! |
OOOhhh! That's sounds awful. I have had a flash of terror before too. I feel like Tinkerbell is like camoflauged when we are outside. I lose her all the time. Often she is just a few feet away from me and I freak because I think she has snuck off. I started putting her hot pink harness and leash on while we are outside. I don't hold the leash but atleast now I am able to see where she is and if she ever darts away from me I can grab that leash as well. We have chain link fence and she is still small enough to squeeze through the holes! So glad all is ok with your baby. |
i do the same thing i get freaked out to if my scrappy isnt in my site i will start yelling for him then my husband will say hes right behind ya . i just hate to think of him running off he likes to go off sniffing around and it just flips me out when i cant see him ,glad to hear your baby is fine :) |
i thought I lost Cairo once too. My husband came home late one night right after we had gotten her and I had been napping with her and our minpin Tucker on the couch, but when he came home and I woke up, she was nowhere!!!!! I started to call her name and race around the house, I was getting hysterical. My husband was trying to calm me down and he kept telling Tucker to go find Cairo. Tucker just went into the bedroom and sat on the bed with this dumb look on his face. By this time I had totally lost it and my husband thought to pull back the covers on the bed, and there she was curled up in a ball, fast asleep. She must have crawled under the covers without disturbing them. Meanwhile, Tucker was sitting there with this look of disgust, like 'I showed you where she was'. I now look for 5 minutes before I have a fit :) |
Cairo's mom-- Aren't they just soo cute. How funny that she snuck underneath the covers. They always seem to amaze us. My hubby always yells at me saying I freak out to easy and too soon. I guess its just my instinct. But it is a scary feeling when you call them and they are nowhere to be found. :animal-sm Mandy & Luigi :animal-sm |
Gosh what a scare!!! I am glad your Tia is back and alright. My husband and I have to do something with our front fence gate. Chachi can crawl underneath. I am gonna check my back fencing now also. You would think privacy fencing would be okay but these little ones are definitely escape artists!!!! |
That was very scary! I'm glad you got her safely back. They are so little and can squeeze thru things you might think are safe. I know I would have been very upset too. |
Glad Tia is safe in your arms. Rudy is my little escape artist, I have been lucky with him. I have never had a dog that runs when the door is opened and he is so fast. I have had to add a gate to the garage door and know not to open the door unless he is behind the gate or in my arms. Maddie doesn't run off. The good thing is you got her back safe and can learn from this. Our little yorkies are to smart for themselves sometimes.............Cindy |
