Wiping Feet Why do they wipe their feet? I have a one year old female yorkie. She wipes her feet after doing her business, when she wants to play, or just for no reason inside or outside. Just wondering why they do this.... |
Wondering too, Rosi been doing this since she was a tiny puppy ! |
Paddy has never really done the wiping thing, but my Kenzy (who is four) has always wipe his feet THOROUGHLY after he goes to the bathroom. In fact, sometimes he makes such a production of it that it seems he puts more effort into the wipe than the deed. :grin2: He also wipes his feet after he "nests" sometimes too in the bed covers. He is quite the character! |
My dogs all do this. It looks like a half-hearted attempt to cover up or throw a little dirt over their mess before they move on. I suppose wolves and other wild dogs do this to keep themselves from being followed or discovered. Carol Jean |
SnowWa got it right, that's exactly why they do that. I used to have pug who would only poop in the loose dirt in my flower bed so she could kick up enough dirt to cover her poopy. It's an instinctual behaviour. |
Wiping feet I read somewhere they wipe their feet to scent mark their territories. Their sweat glands are located on their feet, so they scratch, kick, to deposit their personal scent. They also circle around before lying down because their instincts are taking over. In the wild, dogs do this to flatten the tall grass in the spot they have chosen to bed down in. Jackie |
Rosi does this when she wants to go out or when feeling realy frisky ! |
