HELP....Barking :idontknow what to do anymore. Buddy is constantly barking. Hermoine never barks. My hubby is ready to throw me or the dog out. He agreed to me getting another dog on the conditions that it isn't a barker. We once had a pom. and it barked day and night so he had enough of the barking. Can't say I blame him. I tried everything that I could think of to stop the barking......this is what I did so far to no avail. 1) In a deep voice... yelled No = didnt work :thumbdown 2) water spray bottle = didnt work. He likes water. :thumbdown 3) rolled up paper and banked it, saying no = worked for a little but then realized that the paper isn't hurting him..so barking again. :thumbdown 4) Put him in a different room for a little, settle down a little. :thumbdown He is only 4 months so I dont know if that is normal or not.HELP PLEASE:exclaim |
Some suggest putting pennies in a coke can and shaking it at them whenever they bark. Maybe that will work? |
I have a 9 year old Pom who barks all the time for no reason, till she gets her food and if someone is at the door or even people she knows come over she will bark for 15 minutes. It is very annoying and we have not found anyway to stop her. As she has gotten older she is a little better with random barking for no reason but still horrible around other people.I thought of using those citronel bark collars but I thought maybe they were not good for them. Good luck. i know if you don't stop it now while he is young it will be a very hard habit to break. |
I have one that barks excessively when people come to the door. We are thinking of getting the citronella bark collar. I have heard it is safe to use. I am pretty sure they have it on the Dr fosters and Smith online catalog. |
I am wondering if the citronila is a temporary thing teaching them not to bark or is it a forever thing. My vet did say that those are safe. I wouldn't use the shock one because I once used it on my Pomerainum and she use to drop to the floor. It was horrible!! And think about it, would you like to be shocked, I know I wouldnt. Oh well, let me know how you make out with the citronila. Is your baby a puppy or adult? |
lol that is cute I think it is cute because I have the same problem with china she barks all the time No matter what I try she wont stop barking . :) |
I agree with pennies in the coke can. It worked training my three babies.... |
Well , when you find something that works, please let me know. I hate all the barking! |
I would also like to know the miracle cure!! My little girl is a year old and she goes through stages of constant barking. I have tried squirting her with water, telling her off, rolled up newspaper and I am finally trying a sonic collar which I think is helping a little. When she starts barking we have tried to distract her with food or toys but that doesn't work either she is just to persistant about whatever it is she is barking at. We have finally come to the conclusion that she is just a barker but we do feel bad for the neighbours sometimes. :aimeeyork |
:( I really have to get Buddy to stop barking. Everyone is yelling at him now. It's so annoying because he doesn't let up. I am kinda leaning towards the fact that if they are barkers as puppies, then they will be barkers as adults. I am considering purchasing the citronila spray. Has anyone had any luck with that? |
Lots of Barking I have to try the pennies in a coke can. I have used crumbled paper as a noise maker to keep Sir Doogie from doing improper behavior. He seems to hate the noise. He has started to bark and cry for everything he wants. He wimpers and cries like a child. It is the cutest thing ever. |
 I did the pennies in the can thing already and this is what happened. Buddy would stop barking, give me that slanted head look as if he is saying...you think I have problems, your shaking a can with pennies in it! And then he continues on his merry way which includes the barking. I didn't have any luck with that. He just kept on barking and I kept running for this can all day. Wonder what makes them bark. The other Yorkie, not a peep comes out of her! |
It sounds like you have a barker, so I'm not sure anything will help. BUT, at age 4 months, Rowdy started barking at us - when he wanted us to play or wanted us to do something with/for him. It about drove us crazy. We were out camping for a month in our travel trailer. I didn't have access to YT, and I was at a loss. So, I tried to think like his canine mom - if he were misbehaving, what would she do. So......Rowdy had on his harness and when he barked, I grabbed him by the harness on the back (grabbed is much harsher than reality) and shook him gently - but firmly enough to startle him. He looked at me like, "you have lost your mind" and ran to my husband, turned around and looked at me some more. It only took 3 "shakes" and he stopped barking at us. I used it when I didn't think he should be barking and it was effective. The only thing that I can't stop is the barking at the black lab next door. Whenever the lab barks at something on the street, Rowdy rears up on the fence and barks at the lab. When I go to the door, Rowdy stops and comes inside, but I can't keep him from runing out the door and barking. Hope you find something that will help! :) |
I am so desperate that I will try anything. Tomorrow, Buddy's harness goes on. Shake it out of him. LOL Hope it works. Thanks for the tip. |
Rowdysmom is so right... you really have to startle them. If the harness does not work, then try a louder noise, like banging a metal spoon on a metal pot. Catch him off guard. I used a cake pan and a spoon for the first few days, really laided into them when Gracie barked (now I just use the can when needed), she needed a BIG wake up call to stop barking... Good luck!!! |
