The solo diner? :questione I've been paying attention to my very weird little doggy of late. (As if I get the chance to ignore her, the way she's stuck to me, lol!) I've noticed something odd. :questione When I give her her meals, I usually walk off and leave her to it. But I've noticed recently that if I do, she doesn't eat  I've had to stand in the kitchen with her and wait until she's done or she simply leaves it in her bowl. On the very rare occasions that I can slip away, she picks up a piece of meat and stands in the doorway where she can keep an eye on me. :dogsm6: She repeats this process with every morsel of food. :scratchhe Does anyone know why she does this? Or am I doomed to spend every meal time standing next to the dog dish? LoL :dogwalk: :dogwalk: :dogwalk: |
Mine too! Mine do that too. I guess they have worked out their schedule now so that they know at about what times I will be hanging out in the kitchen (that is where the food bowl is) and that is when they eat. Like in the mornings when I am making/getting coffee, getting snack/lunch food ready for the day at work or school. Fixing supper in the evenings or doing dishes, etc. My girls also (only the girls do this) will take a piece of food in their mouth, run into the other room to eat it, then return to start the process all over again. Funny! Seems to me they are wasting a lot of energy, but that is their method. Actually, I don't think any of mine will stay in any room by themselves for any amount of time... social creatures or just plain nosey?? Nosey mostly!! |
Cali will only eat if I am in the room. |

Mitzi does that too. I figured it was a kind of doggy weight watchers or something :woof: You're right, it is funny. When she's full she tries to bury it with imaginary dirt too. Girls are just a little crazy I guess, LoL! I bet there are a few male dogs out there who do it, trying to keep in shape for the ladies :) :D |
Some of my dogs have done the same thing. They have even left food in their bowls all day until I come home from work before they will eat it. I have never changed my behavior because of it. I just go on doing my own thing, and they eventually get all their meals eaten. And - since I have never stayed by while they ate, they have eventually begun to eat more with me not there. Maybe they're like us. A lot of people don't like to eat alone. And, it may be instinctive for dogs to want to eat with others - packs, etc. Carol Jean |
Food always tastes better with company. |
Gus does this as well. He wont eat all his food if I'm not in there with him the whole time. I can be in the next room but he has to have me in eyesight. |
I have a couple that won't eat unless one of us is in the room with them. If they are hungry and we aren't in there, they bring it out one piece at a time to eat it. |
My Bunny dose that as well. I have a conner in the living room that I have stuck her bowls in. There is really no place in the kitchen for it. Dont get me wrong, German homes have a big kitchen... But we have a US ice box and there MUCH MUCH bigger then the german ones. The german ones, have what we call a min frig. and keep a BIG freezer in the basement. They go shopping every 3 days, so they dont ..I guess stuck up on stuff as we do. They just get enough to last 3 days and then go back to the store when they need more. So, I really dont have room in the kitchen for her bowels. And now she eats all her food in the living room, scents SOMEONE (ME) is always in there. I have no problem getting her to eat now, were I did before. |
Bridget has to have company when she eats also. I leave kibble out for her all day when I'm at work, but she rarely touches it, maybe a nibble here or there. She'll usually chow down her food in the late evening and I have to be in the room to witness this miraculous occurance! :) |
Rosi does this too , have to be near by ! |
