Dr. Hill's Science Diet Does anyone have any opinions about this brand for Yorkies? I have heard good and bad......  |
I do not like it due to the some of the main ingredients such as corn.... there is so much better out there on the market. I would really research before giving my yorkie this food. |
My Edie uses the T/D at the recommendation of our vet. SHe loves it, and it has kept her teeth in remarkably good condition. Edie has no problem with itchy skin, so I don't really care about the corn as an ingredient. |
I use it for my pregnant and nursing moms then when the pups are weaned I use it for them. So if anyone knows something better please say as I would be most interested. |
We used Science Diet with our poodle - really didn't research different foods though back then. His vet had him on prescription ones throughout his life so I think it was probably best for him. Tatum now eats Innova and we love it - and she does too! I've started giving Tatum and Stormie (our Aust. Shepherd) the Science T/D as treats for their teeth. They really love it and I think it's much better than other treats. I've come to rely on the YT members for all the research on these kinds of things. Innova comes highly recommended here and we've had really good results with it. |
I have used science diet since we have had buckeye. the vet recommended it. I recently asked the vet about this brand because i was hearing too many bad things about it. she said her dogs are on science diet she says there are better brands out there but there are worse too. I tried many brands with buckeye because he was really pickey and this was the only one that he would eat. we stuck with it for the other 3. I have had no problems with science diet. the first vet that recommend it to begin with said to put him on something high quality and to stay away from the ones that are different colors. the dyes in them are harmful to them. red dye in particular. There are lots of brands to choose from as long as it is high quality I do't think it makes any difference. |
Science Diet I have heard mixed things. I guess honestly it will come down to if he/she will eat it and if it's the best you can get...some areas are not that good about having a huge variety of foods. I just got my pup almost a week ago. He was on Royal Canin which is supposed to be top notch. Unfortunately, it's a bit harder for me to get. So I decided to change it. I got both good and bad reviews from other forums on the science diet. When I went to petco and spoke to the guy there and he told me that Royal Canin is def. top of the line and that the Nutro line is the same but bit easier to find so I went with that. He did tell me that science diet is good but the Nutro is better. So on that I opted for the Nutro because of it's ingredients, availability for me and the fact that the natural formula that I chose has Oatmeal (which is great for the coat) and glocusamine (which is a healthy addative for their joints). Good luck in your decision. There is so much information out there and the best thing is choosing what you are comfortable with. |
