What do you do when you leave I have been crating Prince when we have to leave. I occasionaly go to my husbands office sometimes take him but leave him from time to time. I am scared to crate new little girl because she is so little. I thought about giving her a run (indoor) with a puppy pad but have been told it is confusing when you try to house break. I don't want her to go without food if I get tied up. please any ideas or things that work for you. julie |
I'm a stay at home mom so I'm not gone very often. However, when I do need to be gone I shut off a room with a baby gate ( I like to use the baby gate 'cause I don't think that they feel as closed in and they can see out). I leave food, water, their crate, a piddle pad (in a holder otherwise it's a chew toy) and a couple of toys. I use a room w/o carpeting so it doesn't matter if she goes on the floor ( if she does pee on the floor use a paper towel to wipe it up, then press the towel on the piddle pad to give it her smell and help her get the idea). Also depending where you live, you may be able to find a doggy day care. There is no such thing here, but I've heard about them. lol |
I crate ..she loves it there it feels secure and a familuar place its working out great for me she will even goin the crate herself when she wants to nap.goodluck.. :grin2: |
Hi! I crate Lexie when I am at work. I come home for lunch so she is usually only in there 4 hrs at a time. I make her a Kong, (fill it with bits of her food and then cap off the end with cheese wiz!) SHE LOVES IT!! I tell her to "go get in her bed" and she will run there, because she knows she is getting the Kong. At night, she will go in there on her own. It makes her feel secure. I bought a pink plush bed for the crate and she has her stuffed "baby" with her. (talk about living like royalty!!) |
Bailey doesn't mind going in his crate, he's not in it alot ( since he goes to work with me) But I say " Crate" and he goes right in and waits for his treat, I turn on the radio for him, and he has a lined wooly blanket then a furry crate pad on that, and a little blanky that he uses for a pillow, his crate looks so comfy I wanna crawl in it and take a nap. |
I only leave Dennis to go bowling and the grocery store and I put him in the bathroom with food, water, and Puppy pad. I don’t ever leave a collar on him because he could choke. This has worked out well for me and I just don’t have to worry about him chewing wires or hurting himself. He will be a year old this month and I would probably give him the run of the house at this point but he won’t let me out the door! |
My Yorkie is confined to a large kitchen/laundry room area with everything he needs. I just leave - This is just the way it has to be at my house, and as far as I know, there have never been any problems. Carol Jean |
Mine is in an expen with her bed, food, water, a safe toy and a potty pad. |
I crate, and when I'm going to be gone more than 4 hours I have someone who comes in to walk and play with her. she loves her crate and goes in willingly. sometimes i'll find her sleeping in there when its wide open. |

Tiger is in a crate for 7 hours long (in the laundry room) as soon as I leave at 7:15am . . . . and has had no problems. When I put him in there he does not whine or bark. I go home during my lunch hour to relieve him and feed him and play a little bit . . . and them crate him again but not for long (only about less than 2 hours). He does bark a lot though as soon as he hears the garage door roll up as he knows it is me coming home to him. At night when he is restless in my bed (which isn't often), I take him to his crate (which I move to the bedroom) and again won't whine or bark at all. He's cool at whatever arrangements we make for him, but I think only as long as he is in the same room as us. He's such a great doggie and I love him dearly! |
I crate.........I am home most of the time or my hubby is here. If we both leave we crate. We usually are not gone very long. I think they feel very secure and safe in their crates. :) |
I do not live close enough work to come home during the day so I keep Diezel gated in a hallway about 8 ft. long. He has food and water, his bed toys. He is fine when I leave because he gets a treat and knows that there is one hidden someplace in there for him to find. If I have to go out at night after being home for only a couple hours I leave him out in the living room/ kitchen area. Not often but he is good so once in a while he gets what he has earned. I only crate him at night when its time for bed. I have tried to let him sleep out of the crate but when he sleeps with me on the couch or bed he has me up all night licking my face. And if I leave hiim in his bed he does nothing but bark to wake me up. After a few sleepless months we learned he is content sleeping in his crate. |
