I don't think you'll believe this!!!!!

We're kind of slow potty training at my house, so I've been keeping my pup in a bellyband for quite some time - when he has run of the house. (He uses his potty pad when he's confined to that area).

And - I have learned quickly just how much he pees. (With the bellyband, I know everytime he pees). Of course, he pees once or twice in the morning, and I have learned that during the day, he will go for 4 or 5 hours without peeing - and then in the evening he pees almost every 15 or 20 minutes.

Most of the time he pees - I don't see him do it - or even see the spot on my carpet or scatter rugs. But now I know that he actually pees at least a dozen (or more) times a day.

How often in a month --- he pees about 360 times.
Do you want to go for six months -- more than 2000 times.

(These are conservative figures - it could be more!)

So, how often do you change the belly band? Every time he pees? I have been thinking about putting Ceeby in a band but my hubby says no because he will stink and be wet and irritated all the time. I've got to do something tho. he has within the past three or four days started lifting his leg and it's on the corners of my couch. i have made him a pee pad pole which he has yet to use.

Why do you think he pees so much in the evening SnowWA? Is there more activity at your house then?

First - because I'm playing with him, picking him up, and handling him so often --- I'm pretty much on top of when he pees - and always take off the wet bellyband right then (I use washclothes - have a couple dozen - and they go right into my wash).

He really doesn't smell like pee at all. I keep him dry almost all the time. And, I wipe him off with a damp cloth whenever he pees. He has never had any sort of irritation at all. I have kept a close eye on that.

As far as peeing more in the evening - this is just obviously his schedule. He may be drinking more water. Also - he is more active in the evenings - playing with my other dog. They seem play the most at night (this may be what makes him drink more water.)

Nights - he sleeps 7 or 8 hours (sometimes more) every night without wetting.

And, he pees on his pee pad (most of the time) when he's confined to the kitchen while I work - four days a week.

I don't think peeing a dozen times during the day is too much for a pup - I'm sure I changed diapers on my babies twice that often.

But - after all is said and done -- this certainly is not the ideal situation - the weather is nicer - and we are going to start going outside a lot. He has never hesitated to pee outside.

Bellybands have certainly saved my house/carpet/etc....but we all know that being potty trained is what needs to be done.

Okay, I have been waiting for the 'washcloth" person to post. Will you please tell me how you fold them and fasten them. Thanks

Valuable information for us future "pee king" moms. How do you fold the washcloth. I assume you use the cheap thin ones.

Belly Bands
 

I used belly band when mine had the run of the house or when I couldn't watch them. I checked them often and if wet, I cleaned them with baby wipes and put a clean pad on the band. Mine didn't stink and they still got trained to use puddle pads. It's better than them peeing on your furniture.

Are the belly bands and diaper panties lined with plastic to keep them from leaking through?

I know my little boy has to mark all of his favorite spots when we go get the mail, sometimes twice. I can't believe such a little thing can pee so much!

I fold the washclothes in a diagonal - elongated manned (leaving them 3 or 4 inches wide -whatever! This is on the bias -so I wrap them quite tight initially. Otherwise they will be off in a few minutes.

I especially love these when we go visiting. I can let my pup run around in other people's houses without worrying.

Mine are the thin, inexpensive washclothes -- that you can buy in a bundle.

I don't - but I could put a pad in them. I think this would work fine. I don't know about plastic. I would think that the pee - would just slide off plastic. I think you need to use something more absorbent. Also, using two washclothes instead of one might be an option.

I have purchased bellybands before. They are expensive and I like my washclothes much better. They aren't bulky and I think they look better I know if I have them under any clothes - you don't even know they're there.
