Drinking ALOT of water The last few days my husband and I have noticed that lexi (1) is drinking alot of water, alot more then the usual. She has not changed her activity level, nor has her eating, or sleeping all is normal we thought it might be the weather since it is a little warmer then usual but today it was a bit chilly so that blows that theory out of the water. Should I be concerned? |
I would actually measure the amount of water she is drinking then the vet will be able to more accurately give an opinion as to if this is excessive. Increased water intake is a symptom of diabetes, cushing's disease (usually diagnosed in older dogs), and other things. |
Usually it's older dogs that get diabetes - not young ones. I learned at a routine vet visit that my dog had diabetes - and then realized that I had noticed that someone was drinking more water around my house. I had two dogs and a cat. But there was no doubt that I was filling their water bowls oftener. Anyway - she was worked up and went on two insulin shots a day (for the rest of her life). Unfortunately, I lost her from something else two years later. The shots are so easy to give; she didn't mind them at all. I know she couldn't even feel them. And, she did well. If she was given her shots faithly (which she was), she was perfectly healthy and had no problems at all. The only problem for me was that I had to be home at a certain time twice a day to give her her injections. This really made me stick close to home for those two years. But then - who wouldn't do this! Carol Jean Good luck! |
