does your spouse/boyfriend/sig other have a problem with your puppy?? My boyfriend is allergic to dogs/cats etc - i have read everywhere that most people arent allergic to yorkies... now that i have snickers he is always itchy and often acts like he cant stand the dog... i think he tries to be nice about it but it shows... and he DOES get red and itchy so i know that is true but does anyone else have this problem? he keeps saying its not that he doesnt like her but pretty sure he doesn't... |
The only problem around here is I have to steal him back all the time... |
Maybe he likes her, but doesnt like be uncomfortable all the time ?? I have never dated anyone who didn't like Stewie. What's not to love? hehe. |

but then he says he doesnt not like her i feel like i cant' spend alot of time with her when he is over i dont know the puppy is staying regardless i just wish he liked her better i didnt know if anyone else had someone in their house that didnt LOVE the dog like we do... |
Well my husband didn't like Pandora. He would sit and literally break out in hives when I paid attention to her instead of him. He once told me he was going to make me choose between me and "that dog". So the moral of that story is he has been an EX husband for over 10 years and Pandy was with me until she died yesterday. My Husband is just crazy in love with our dogs like I am. I cant imagine being with someone who didnt love them as much as I do. |
Sounds like you need to get a new boyfriend:) Just kidding. I have never heard of someone allergic to Yorkies though. My boyfriend loves Georgie as much as I do. Anyone that knows me knows that we are a package deal, maybe tell your boyfriend that, let him know that your dog is like having a child and then let him decide JMO. Good luck to you :animal-pa |
My husband was againist the idea of me getting Kloey, but if you all read where I introduced Kloey, you will all see why I had to have her, I had a misfortune accident with a bigger dog, he was are own dog and he still turned on me, I got very lucky! But Kloey helped me overcome my fear, she put me in peace, now as far as my husband, he will rough house with Kloey, where I tend to baby her. But when it comes to the disipline, he is the alpha male and he won't let Kloey get away with anything, and Kloey knows that I baby her and she comes running to me for help! But the funny thing is, no matter how much my husband disiplines her, she keeps going back for more of his "tough love" hmmmm ? |
that's too bad about your boyfriend....I've heard people can be allergic....he could also be itchy just knowing a dog is in the room - our bodies can fool us into symptoms sometimes....I wonder what you could do to make him more comfortable ? I'm glad I don't have that problem....My husband is pretty sick and the girls are his biggest reasons to smile lately...he loves them very very much and wants another one. If I wasn't married these last 5 years....whoever I was with ...would HAVE to take me and my girls as a package deal just like when my kids were little :) |
well snickers isnt going anywhere i love her and wouldnt give her up actually sometimes i wish i had gotten 2 (so she would have a playmate) but knew it wouldnt be fair to the dogs seeing she is my 1st and want to be a good yorkie mom to her and i am learning along the way as it is... but i really wish he was better with the puppy ~ i am sure i am not the only one that has this problem it just saddens me i guess... kinda like she is another one of my children its hard when someone in your life doesnt "get along" with the things most precious to you |

I am so sorry about Pandy as I know how much we love these little ones. |
If he really wants to be with you, I'm sure you can just get him to take an allergy pill before coming over and then he will be fine. My boyfriend is EXTREMELY allergic to horses and horses are my LIFE. He get hives anywhere my horse touches him and his eyes swell and go red, itchy & watery, and his nose plugs so bad he can't breathe. That doesn't stop him from coming to the barn with me or trailering my horse to shows - he just pops a pill before coming and then he is fine. |
My husband, mom, sister, grandma, mother in law, I think you get the picture, Everyone in my family and his loves our girls! And my husband he is head over heels in love with them! |
My husband loves Cali. He's always carrying her around. |
No my hubby loves Pippa (nearly as much as i do ;) ) But i have trouble if my lab licks me i come up in hives on the patch he licks. When i kiss Pippa alot my bottom lip swells a bit and i get small hives on them but this goes away in about 20 mins. Its just a pain but i wouldnt be without them so i put up with it :D |
We think my bf may be very mildly allergic to Eleanor. When he gets around cats and other dogs he has trouble breathing. It's pretty bad. He can't even go in PetSmart. Eleanor gets all in his face and he just gets itchy eyes a little. :) He really likes her though so if it continues he is going to get some allergy medicine from the Dr. |
My hubby started out not really crazy about Oscar but Oscar loves him so much, he could not help but love him back...here it is 11:30 at night and they are having their evening ritual of fetch before they go to bed...yes, Oscar sleeps with us and it was hubby's idea!!! He really loves Oscar...a lot, but Oscar loves him more! |
I am so sorry! I hope that you 2 can find a way for all of you to be happy. I am sure if he takes something, he should be ok. My hubby loves Zeus as much if not more than me, if that's even possible! I never thought he would be so crazy over a little "girlie" dog, as he once put it, but he is head over heels for him!! :p |
My husband doesn't have a problem with the girls. His problem is I think he loves them more than me! :D He greets them first, kisses them more, cooks special dinners for them (I get the leftover) and always make me the bad guy! Gosh I am So in Love with this man! :luvu: |
My Boyfriend has no problem with any of our dogs, which i'm really happy about because I love them all! my brother is allergic to my dogs but he still touches them even though he gets all itchy-teary eyed and sneezy. His daughter on the other hand cannot come over because me and my dogs moved back into my parents house and his ex-wife won't let her come over cause she's too allergic  funny thing is.. all she ever does is look at them from far away! oh well :( |

While you can be allergic to anything, including a Yorkie...usually people are allergic to the undercoat that Yorkies dont have....If its not the Puppy....could it be the shampoo? I had a BAD reaction to one of the kitty shampoos a few years ago... (Yep, I'm the one at the pet store that opens the shampoo, sniffs and walks around for 15 or so minutes before I go back and pick it up off of the shelf to purchase... ) Good luck! I hope you find a solution sooon . Bren |
He wont even touch her and when he sits on the chair and she jumps on him he gets all flustered... which makes me defensive and i will either hold her at that point on my lap or try to seperate them i just dont know what to do and i told him that he could maybe take zyrtec but he wont even take tylonal or cold meds so he refuses ugh how stubborn but we need to figure something out cuz she is staying so i dont know what to do with him but i am not going to sit there to make sure she doesnt touch him ALL THE TIME i dont know... |
Snickers mom, sorry to hear that your BF has such a reaction..it almost sounds as if he is becoming phobic. But, even if not, his psychological reaction to Snickers sounds pretty strong. Why will he not try to "take a pill" to see if it helps? And, as for what people react to in dogs--it can be dander(skin flakes), fur (Yorkies have hair), or the protein in their saliva. Maybe if you can wipe Snickers down with baby wipes before he comes over, that would help. I will not go further with the rest of what I am thinking ......... I do feel bad that you are caught in the middle but my ogs (and it sounds like yours does too) comes first....I am allergic to any animal that sheds fur-rabbits, cats, shedding dogs and I love all 3...When I go to the vet, I take extra allergy meds...I nearly die in there if I don't.. |
excellent thread My ex bo and I used to live together and He and Merlot was the source of alot of issues. He says that he doesn't not like him, but he's not an animal person. They used to play and rough house sometimes, but when I wasn't home he would actually close the bedroom door with Merlot on the outside. It pissed me off when I came home to see My Merlot sitting in the livingroom alone. We have since started seeing each other again, but I can't ever see getting serious with someone who doesn't love my dog like I do. I don't expect that from everyone, but I do from the man I'm going to share a home and my life with. |

see thats EXACTLY the kind of stuff he would do... altho he wont even play or touch her! |
It's true that a Yorkie is on the list of dogs that are least apt to cause an allergic reactions. BUT - it can still happen. I took my puppy to work and one of my co-workers held him the better part of the day. Later in the day and for the next day or two, she had hives on her lower arms, wrists, and hands. Surprised her! And, a week or two later, she visited a pet store, handled some puppies, and had the same reaction. My vet said that not only can a dog's dander cause an allergic reaction, but its urine and saliva can do the same thing. (News to me!) And, he said that even with the breeds that are so-called "non-" or "hypoallergenic," there are some people who are allergic to them also. The end result is that people are less likely to experience an allergic reaction from a Yorkie - but it can still happen? Carol Jean |
