fast weight gain question... Hi Everybody, Last Friday i took snickers to the vet and she weighed 3lbs... I took her in again today for her rabies/distemper vaccine and she was 4lbs?? she is 3 1/2 months now and i know they generally double thier 3m weight so i was gaging her to be about 6lbs... now i am wondering what is up with this sudden wieght gain and about how big she may end up being? Any thoughts? |
Is it possible that one of the weights are a mistake? Sometimes, the tec does not give the dog time to settle down on the scales and sorta guesstimate.. |
At my vets office they have different scales, and not one of them weighs the same. Kim |
My vet won't do a rabies until 6 months?? Is it normal to get it at 4 months? |
Someone made a mistake, either last Friday or today. |
ok so it isnt normal... i didnt think so i was trying to kinda hint to the vet that i thought that was a HUGE gain but she kinda blew it off she was 2.8 when i got her at 10wks - then 3.0 at 12 wks now she is 14wks and i thought 4 was a huge jump... she looks a lil bigger but not by THAT much i am going to have to borrow a scale from someone and as far as the rabies... at her 1st visit they told me she gets it at 5m but when i brought her in yesterday for her last distemper they did the rabies too.... i wasnt expecting it and thought it a bit strange should i look for another vet? snickers is our first puppy |

I bought a postage scale off ebay so now I can weigh her myself. |

My vet's scales weigh 3 oz different. Plus at times, my pup wiggles and moves around so much, they could easily grab a weight that is off an ounce or two. And - last but not least - it is amazing what these little puppies can gain in a short period of time. I know my pup has grown in fast little spurts. I wouldn't worry at all. Yorkie's growth rates vary a lot - and if your pup is happy and healthy - he weighs whatever he weighs. Also, I know some Yorkies almost quit growing at around 6 months and others continue to grow for several months after that. Remember - if your pup is happy, energetic, and healthy - if you weren't weighing him - you wouldn't even care! Carol Jean |
