TeeJay recently just got neutered on wednesday and he's wearing that elizabethan collar which drives him crazy! I was wondering when it'd be okay for him not to wear it anymore? I feel terrible watching him try to scratch his ears or pick up a toy to play with.

Also, he still "humps" his stuffed animal, pooh bear, even after the surgery! Is this normal? It's only been 3 days!

My dogs didn't have to use any sort of collar when they were fixed- but I did have to make sure they were not licking the incision... maybe you could take the collar off when you are with him, and keep an eye on him... if he starts licking, then put the collar back on?

Mac & Mellie had internal stitches they didn't need a collar either. I would assume it is ok to take it off if he's not licking the area. Also Mac still likes to hump, just not as much which was 24/7

You could get him a newborn onesie and cut a hole for the tail. Lots of YT'rs, including myself, used onesies instead of the collars after spaying or neutering. They are more comfy and keep the dog from being able to lick the incision, plus they look darling in them.

You can take the collar off and see if he doesnt lick his stitches. You could put a onsie on instead if he does. The humping is normal. Chachi did it right after he was neutered then didnt do it again since.

Cool idea about the oneses!!!!!!!!! I only kept my girl in her collar when I wasn't watching her, like at night or if I had to leave her alone. What was really funny- one night I guess she was tired cause she went and got the collar off her bed and brought it to me :D

Also might try some bitter apple applied with a Q-tip along the incision so he will not lick it. None of my critters have worn those collars..and no probs

Great idea about the oneses! Sadie had the stiches inside so she never bothered them.

We used a onsie for Punkin. It worked out great! Well...she did poop in it, but that was more my fault than hers.
