Tricks and training. Hey, I was just wondering...I got my doc CoCo to sit, but now we want him to do other tricks such as, 'roll over', 'jump', 'bark' etc. How can my boyfriend and I train him how to do that? Obviously, we're gonna have to show him first how to do it, but that's the idea -- how do we show him and make him learn to do so? |
I guess you just get LOTSA treats ready and give it go :) Maybe you could find a book on how to train your dog to roll over and do tricks. Sorry, I have no idea. :D :D Just wanted to say welcome to YT, and how about posting some pictures of your little fur-baby for us to see :D |

CoCo is so sweet! Love the one in her jammies, cutest face and great ears. |
She is precious!! I took Bailey to puppy training, and they use the clicker method with 'treats', they recommend using their regular food as the treat (don't want them to get unhealthy). When they follow your example and get it right you click the clicker, praise and give the treat. Even if they do it as part of their natural action (like lying down...if thats what you want to teach them), click and praise and give the treat. Bailey will lie down for me on command...works great...yorkies are very smart! |
hello when you want to get him to bark you need to find something that makes him bark like say seeing a certain stuffed animal makes him bark get the stuffed animal and as you show it to him say speak then when he does praise him..tell him good boy good speak..keep doing it and eventually he will understand what he is doing and do it on command.. on the lay down..after you make him sit..i use treats on this one..put the treat in front of his nose then lower the treat to the floor as he follows say lay down..as soon as he is laying down give him the treat and tell him good lay down..always praise ALOT when they are doing as you ask..and never train for long periods of time..and always give him a release command to let him know you are done training..for example you have trained..have a ball or toy he likes..when you are done training tell him release and allow him to go play with the ball.. roll over..after he his laying down take a treat in front of his nose and move your arm in a roll over position so that he follows it will take a few times but he will soon understand..then praise and give him the treat.. If your training though..you want to make sure you have one trick totally mastered before you move to the next..make sure he is sitting everytime you ask him without the treat before you move on to the next.. hope this helps.. |
