Do u consider your dog "high maintenance?" Somebody said to me the other day that she wouldn't want to own such a high maintenance dog as Pita. I don't consider her high maintenance at all, I brush her out once a day she gets a bath once or twice a week and when she goes to the bathroom on the pads I throw them out and put out a new one, I have never had to replace anything that she's ruined cuz she doesn't ruin anything, she eats very little, I do tend to spend money on her cuz I want to, not cuz she needs it.I don't have to walk with her for hours a day and she's content to sleep if i sleep, or go out if I want to.. or not. She's also extremely portable The person I was talking to has a chihuahua that doesn't need daily brushing, but for me that's part of the joy of having Pita, I like grooming her. Maybe "high maintenance" is all in the way you perceive it. Do you consider your dog high maintenance? |
The only part that I would consider "high maintenance" would be the daily brushing.. Other then that, everything else I do to my HUGE lab anyway.. What's the difference? |
Samson's hair is cut short but even without the daily brushing I still consider him high-maintenance. I never had a dog before so I don't have anything to compare him to but I'd say he demands more attention than other peoples dogs I've been around. |
I think Zeus is, but in a cute way! Like he has to have you dump his food out of his bowl, so he can eat it off the mat. He will tap his paw on the bowl until you do! :p He has a lot of things that he likes a certain way, but I am more than happy to oblige!! I just love him to peices and its all worth it! :) |
High Maintenance? Yes I think so. I have 3 fur kids who need constant attention physically and emotionally, grooming by me on a daily basis, professional grooming which costs $$$, etc. I don't think being "high maintenance" is a bad thing, I wouldn't change it for the world. I thank my lucky stars daily for them needing me to do all this "maintenance". :p I dunno, it seems almost everything is "high maintenance". Pets, children, husbands, wifes, vehicles, homes, etc. The list goes on forever, LOL. :D |
Yes but i love it |
If "high maintenance" means very much loved and very spoiled - count mine in! I wouldn't have it any other way. We have such a close bond. |
Absolutely! |
YES, they are definitely high maintenance only because you want it to be and I won't have it any other way . . . Before I got Tiger, I had a criteria on what I need from a dog: NON-shedder, really cute and small, indoor dog, a lapdog, and many, many more. Tiger absolutely fit my criteria to a T so I don't mind all the work. No one needs to bathe them once a week or even less, but I do just because I want him to smell soooo good all the time next to me, especially since he sleeps with me. No one needs to spend too much time preparing for their meals, but I do as I enjoy the look in his face whenever I hand him a "gourmet" plate of delectable kibbles, cottage cheese, crumbled Innova health bar, beef liver, mangoes etc. No one needs to brush their hair daily as it can be cut really short, but I want the long, sliky hair (he still does not have it but then he's a puppy and am working on it  ) that makes them so irresistably adorable. No one needs to wipe their paws and intimate parts everytime they relieve themselves, but I do because again I want him to be very clean. No one needs to lay out pee pads as they can definitely be trained to go and do their thing outdoors, but I do as I can be pretty lazy and don't feel like taking him out because he'll get dirty or wet from the rain. No one needs to feed the best food there is out there, but I do just because I want to pamper him . . . there are always choices to make life easier for us , but we do what we do because we want to.   |
According to a recent YT poll, 67 percent of Yorkie owners believe their dogs are high maintenance. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33017 |
How often do your yorkies get a bath? |

I bathe Pita on Sundays and sometimes Wednesdays. We live on a mini-farm so she gets pretty scruffy fast. |
High maintenance - no way. (You shold try having a Bichon!) My puppy's hair is short and never tangles. I can run a comb through his hair anytime with no problems whatsoever. I used to bath my dog once a week (when he was a pup and had terrible oily hair). But his new hair is wonderful, and he's a house dog (doesn't get dirty) and I can get by bathing him less often. I could take my pup to a groomer, but so far I have trimmed him myself. This is a little work because he is such a wiggleworm. But, because I'm doing this at home, I don't even have to do it all at once. Often we do a little and get back to it later. Yorkies are so different - one from the other - different sizes, different types of hair, different cuts, etc...... I am sure that grooming and upkeep is much more work for some of us than it is for others. But, for now, mine is very little work. Carol Jean |

As for baths, I'd say once every two weeks. I know, we're bad. |
