Throw Rugs Bridget is really good about doing her business on her potty pads. She gets free rein of the house and knows where her pads are in two separate bathrooms. Here’s the thing… whenever there is a throw rug down in the bathroom she seems to like to pee on it instead. Not every time, but eventually it will happen. I’ll take the rugs up to wash them and of course no accidents. I’ll put the rug back down and she’ll go on it again. Is she picking up the scent? Should I just not have throw rugs near her potty pads? She doesn’t have any accidents on the carpet or any of the other throw rugs in the house. Just the ones in the bathrooms near the potty pads. Should I maybe get new ones or just give up on bathroom throw rugs alltogether? Any advice would be most appreciated! :) |
My dogs will occasionally pee on two of the scatter rugs that I have in my house. They are washable and I'm just glad they pee there instead of another place in the house - that might not be as easy to clean. Carol Jean |
My mom's maltese who are pad trained also do this - at least they're washable. They just confuse them with the pads for some reason. She has changed hers many of times (getting rid of the scent) and they eventually wet on her new ones! I'm at home all day so I definitely prefer that mine is trained to go only outside. |
My girl will occasionally do this too on a throw rug I have by the door. She did this more often when she was pee pad trained. She now only goes outside- no more pee pads. I think the change from floor to rug feels like stepping on the pee pad? |
Gracie did the same thing! I finally just moved the potty pad onto the bath mat and got another bath mat for infront of the tub. That seemed to have solved the problem as far as that goes, but she still pees on me!!!! |
Mitzi does the same thing in the bathroom. I found a smelly thing....it comes in a small bottle and you add 1/3 to 5 litres of water. I just skip the water part and put it directly on the rug. The bathroom smells great and Mitzi hasn't peed on it since :D It's called "Gri-Zyl Magic". I don't suppose you can get it there? |
Dogs can't distinguish the difference between a throw rug and a pee pad and you really shouldn't expect them too. All they see is something absorbant on the floor and since using the pee pad was a good thing... I would remove the rugs. |
