Neutering Hello All, so Zoe's pushing on 5 months, is losing almost all his baby teeth and mounting. The time is coming soon when I need to get him neutered. My vet did suggest that I think about it due to his size. He was 3lbs the last time i weighed him a month ago so I'm sure he's about 4lbs now. Would you feel safe neutering him at a Vet's office? I have seen the back room of my Vet's office and it seems that that is where he performs the surgery. Its pretty gross. Should I take Zoe elsewhere to get neutered? would it be bad that I go to a different vet for the surgery? Also, I heard they grow bigger after the surgery. is this true? I'm so confused. |
I've wondered about delaying Jaxon's neutering due to size as well. He is currently scheduled for the end of March by which time he'll be 6 months. He's only 3 pounds now and I just worry about him being too small. |
Anything could happen at anytime with any vet when it comes to surgery. But I would certainly want to check out the surgery room. At my vet's office not only did I check it out but we know each other so well that I get to go back there and either watch or help and I love it as I am scared for mine also. Wish me luck as my one boy is scheduled for neutering Thursday...... |
Rocky just got neutered two weeks ago, and he was just fine. He ways 4lbs, but he thinks is bigger. When I went to pick him up after work from the vets, I was expecting him to still be a little out of it, but was I wrong he was wide awake and ready to play. |
i had bunjee neutered at about 4 months and a little over 4 lbs. he was just fine. if you don't trust the condition of the surgery room at your vet's then go somewhere else! having another vet do the neutering is definitely better than to leave your puppy to a surgery room of questionable state! try a local spca or even another local vet. my understanding is that in puppies, testostrone will tell the body when it's reached its adult size and weight. so by removing the testicles on a male puppy, the body may have delayed reactions and continue to grow beyond its anticipated adult size. with an adult dog, since growth has been completed, this will have no effect and weight gain is just a myth. imho, yorkies are so small anyways, i think my bunjee can use a little extra weight and size just to match his personality. :D |
