My New Baby and Potty Training Hi! I'm brand new to this forum and to owning a Yorkie so most of you probably understand some of the happiness and some of the frustration I'm going through. So many new things to learn for our family and the puppy and sometimes I think we're doing fantastic and other times I want to cry when he wakes me up to go potty and then won't go back to sleep. I'll write more later. Got to get back to work for now. |
Welcome to YT. :) It's a great place. Hope you enjoy it. |
Awesome to hear from you! Potty training is hard and it takes time. The first few weeks I was like "...this is never gonna work" but now almost 6 months into it, my dog Yoshi is doin great and lets me know whenever he needs to go outside to go to the bathroom. Enjoy your early days and try not to get too stressed. |
My husband and I work all day but my retired in-laws live next door, so they come over around lunch to let Reggie out to play and poop and play and pee. The next issue is at night. We have a baby playpen where he stays during the day and he seems content in there. I had him sleep there the first few days and he would cry in the middle of the night to get up once. Usually he would then pee, poop and play and then go back to sleep. I would get up with him and worry about him waking my husband. My husband told me to let him sleep with us which worked out ok for a few days. Then last night Reggie woke up, apparently tried to wake me and couldn't and he peed in the bed. I got up with Reggie, cleaned up the bed, then tried to put him back to sleep in his bed with us, but he wanted to play. I wanted to sleep and was getting very annoyed with him. I put him in his playpen, but he barked and whined and was keeping my husband awake, so I took him out. I know this was the wrong thing to do but I didn't want to keep my husband awake. I think I need to go back to putting him in his playpen to sleep at night rather than letting him in bed with us. It's just so many things to learn for us and for my puppy and I think we're all a little overwhelmed. We've only had him for 3 weeks and he's doing really well overall. I love the little guy so much. Thanks for letting me vent. Let me know of you have any "puppy wisdom" you want to share. |
