is it harder for the smaller yorkies to "hold" it?
 
My pup is almost here! Yeah! I am going to visit him this sunday. Now I have a question. My last yorkie was 12lbs all muscle. He could "hold" it forever it seemed. Iron bladder. Is it true that the smaller yorkies cannot hold it as long? This new one will be about 5lbs.

Yup, it's true for puppies. I don't know about smaller adult Yorkies, cuz mine is a big teenager :D She holds it for a couple of hours now. She was a nightmare in the begining. I thought she had sprung a leak!! :D

smaller dog, smaller baldder, I remember when Bailey was a pup, I took him out all the time,and he would pee EVERYTIME.

My Gus is 2 years old and is 3 lbs and he can hold it for a very long time. I have left him home alone for up to 7 hours at a time with a pee pad and usually he'll hold it till we get home. I don't like it when he holds it in for so long so we do potty breaks like every 3 to 4 hours. When he was a puppy I would take him out every hour. He wouldn't go every time but most of the time he did. I wouldn't know if bigger dogs hold it for longer or not so I can't help you in that case. We've had both big and little dogs but once the one big dog got older he was a mostly outside dog. So I don't know how often he went.

I have to agree with everyone here. My Daisy is small, almost 3 pounds and she doesn't hold it very while. She makes a few mistakes daily. So unfortunately the smaller the harder to hold it. :rolleyes:

Magic is a small 5lbs and she can hold it just as long as Sailor who is 7lbs!! But I would agree that the smaller the yorkies they harder the potty training, esp. with new puppies!!

My Tiger is going on 5 months tomorrow :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: and already he is very good at holding it for 7 full hours. He is about 4.5 lbs rights now. He has not soiled his crate once . . . .

I am currently crate training him and this should go on a while.
