no more lurking..... Hi. I have been lurking for a while now. I do not have a yorkie yet, but this saturday we meet with a breeder to look at pups and possibly put down a deposit. My daughter and hubby (who live with us) are also getting a furbaby so we will have 2 in the house. We have talked to the breeder's vet and to the breeder himself. Not a puppy mill, pups in the past have all been healthy. And he gives health guarantee for a year. We will put a deposit down and then visit with them each weekend till we can bring them home. The breeder wants to get to know us and make sure good bonding or fit. I have never chosen a pup (never a yorkie) under 6 weeks old except 1 (and that was only cause it was the only all black one and family had it better for me to raise it from 4 weeks then them if you catch my drift. All other pups in that litter died). Anyway, now you see i am long winded, my q is what to look for in small pups to know which is right ones? I would love a smaller size due to my physical problems lifting things. Other than that...HELP! Thanks |
hello and welcome! I hope you find your puppy soon :D |
Welcome to YT :D The more experience Yorkie owners will be more helpful, but I think its just luck. I'm not sure there is a way to make sure you get a really small Yorkie. If it helps, even the bigger ones are still small, so you shouldn't have any trouble lifting him/her when you get him/her :D |
Welcome To Yt! Sounds like you have a good breeder and you are asking all the right questions. If you need anything come to YT and ask. :animal36 |
Welcome to YT. As for size it is really hard to tell. People have chosen the smallest and it has grown to be the largest. My Gus was already two pounds at eight weeks - I was expecting him to reach six pounds maybe a little more but he stopped at five. The only way to ever be completely certain would be to get an older puppy. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck finding your puppy - you can't go wrong no matter what size a Yorkie turns out to be. :) |
Hello...................... Welcome to Yorkie Talk! This is a wonderful forum. Great people and tons of information. We have some real pros on this site, so I hope they jump in and help you. When I picked out my boys I looked for the really healthy pup, alert, playful, bright eyes and one that I could hold in my arms on his back and he would be contented to stay there. I also took toys with me and rolled balls to see if he would chase them. I rang bells to see if that would get his attention. Plus asked tons of questions. I saw the Mom and Dad.....etc. I hope some of the breeder pros can tell you more. Good Luck! We love pictures! :) :aimeeyork :) |
Thanks all. I have loved coming to this site and looking at all the q's and a's. Everyone seems so nice and friendly. I do plan to take lots of pics. Will be sure to post them. |
