how long recovery time?? Hi all, Haven't posted in ages. I was wondering how long before it took your yorkie to recover from their spay?? Well i mean to get back to their normal playfulness. Mandy is a pretty small 3 pounds10 ounces. She also had 7 teeth pulled. I could not believe how long her incision is .Jack's was so tiny compared to hers. It so hard to tell how they are feeling I wish they could talk. Jack and Mandys Mom :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
Most of the time when they first get back home, they will spend the day resting. After 24 -48 hours they should be back to playing. Did they give you pain meds for Mandy? Hope she feels better soon. :getwellso  |

Well with a male they don't need a large incision, but on a female they have to remove a large uterus and ovaries, so its harder on them. You will usually notice the yorkie acting normal 3-7 days after the spay. My sis is a vet tech so I asked her. LOL She will be back to normal before you knwo it! |
I don't get to post as often either. My Lacey was very small, only 4lbs, which I thought was the minimum and she had 4 teeth taken out. She was up and about after a day (was kept overnight at the vet hosp.), never took any pain meds and within a few days was driving Chloe nuts to play. So, I think it should be fine within a week, max. Just make sure the incision isn't red or anything. Of course, each puppy is different. |
Pain meds No the vet did not give me pain meds for her. He told me to soften her kibble or feed the rice and chicken for a few days. She is eating pretty normal. However, I would say that she has become much more subdued since her first heat in January. I noticed that she has become more of a lap dog. Jack is always on the go and wants to play, not her. She used to. she was 1 year old on Jan. 22nd. Thanks so very much for the input. :) :) Jack and Mandys Mom :) :aimeeyork :animal36 :animal36 |

Jewel was up and running and jumping as soon as we brought her home, on the same day as her surgery! Jazzie on the other hand is such a drama queen. She moaned and groaned, we babied her then as soon as we went to the kitched to make dinner she's 100% recovered! A few minutes later she's back to the "Oh, I'm so helpless, please bring me some water.." mode again! She actually milked it for about 3 days! |

Gracie had her surgery on Tuesday. She slept the entire evening, did not eat, and was just pretty much a lazy dog (I caged her to keep her away from my other terrier). The next morning she was up bright and early ready to go potty. My Vet did give her pain pills (4 Days). |
Its sounds like the recovery time varies. She is doing well. Thanks for all the quick responses. :animal36 |
Jasmine was spayed last Wednesday. She was pretty much back to normal on Friday. We brought her home Thursday at noon and she seemed to be fine, but later in the evening jumped up on the couch before I could stop her and I think it hurt a little because she wouldn't do it again. She would stand in front of the couch or my husband's chair and bark until we picked her up. She is still do that. I don't think it still hurts but who knows. Maybe she just likes being the little Diva and making us jump at her command. I was surprised at how small her incision is. It's about 2 inches. I expected it to be larger than that. I have been keeping an eye on it because she does want to lick at it a lot. |

glad to hear she's doing fine. :) daisy got spayed a week ago today, and by last thursday she was her old 'normal' (i use that term loosely ;) ) self. |
Nesting and constipation I was also wondering did your babies have constipation also after their spaying?? She is also doing lots of nesting behavior and making chirpy noises. I was wondering if they go through some hormonal imbalances for awhile. Thanks :) |
