potty training Hello everyone, This is my first time on this site. I have a 4 pound yorkie. She is 3 years old. She is so beautiful. She was born on Christmas Eve and so we named her Evie. About a week after I got her she developed kennel cough. She was so sick I thought she was going to die but she pulled through. I have never been able to potty train her. We have put in a doggy door, which she uses only when it's convenient for her. Other times she uses our carpet in the hallway, and it really smells. I have tried everything I can think of and nothing works. We are really considering selling her because of this. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Sherry |

NO! don't give up on her!! I'm still working on the training thing ... I find sometimes when I can ...that taking him out every 20 minutes or so and then making a REALLY BIG DEAL out of success has been effective ... treats help too ;) Just don't sing the "good boy doodie song" loudly when your neighbors are in their yards... |
Hi. Yorkies can be difficult to train. Maybe try putting down the piddle pads where she likes to go and see if she will use them. Or us a runner. I hate to see you give up on her. Do they make pampers for dogs. Jeanie |
I would also try the Wee Wee Pads. I have not taken Dennis out since, I think it was in November. They work great and he very rarely misses and I don't miss freezing out in the snow, especially at 5 or 6 in the AM! |
They do make Doggie Underpants. Check online suppliers. Don't give up on her. |
It sounds like you need to start over with a new plan. Confine her to small area (gates or an expen) put down a wee pad and when she uses it give her a treat. You need to clean up the smell of where she has had accidents and limit her freedom until she gets the hang of this. keep her near you (on a leash) and take her to the pad or outside often. good luck |

:) They also make a spray the has a urine scent that you can spray on the piddle pads that helps draw them to the area. Good Luck!!!!! |
Hello................... OH MY.........I forgot to tell you WELCOME to Yorkie Talk. Wonderful people and tons of information. Keep in touch and let us know how things are going with the potty training. I think you will love it here :) |
I know it can be frustrating...I'm deailing with training 2 puppies right now (a boston and a yorkie) and they are a handful. We got Buckeye, our Boston, first and today he sat at the door and whined until we let him out!!! SUCCESS!! It comes and goes with every day. We're crate training and you might want to try that. We have to keep a really close eye on Tank because he likes to sneak off into the dining room when we blink and poo there. I'm trying to make him understand that is not his personal bathroom...the yard is:) He's getting better though. You just have to be very consistent and praie praise praise. The puppy pads work for some people by they haven't worked for me. They are catching on better to the outside routine. Goodluck and welcome to YT!! Leah |
