Housebreaking-How long did it take? Chloe is almost 2 months old. And we have been having for 2 and half weeks. We are using pee pee pads. We can't train her to go outside for now because our yard is not completly fenced in. And even the smallest collar we can find is still a little too big for her. The puppy pads are placed in the laundry room. She was doing great for awhile. Now within the last 2 days, she acts like she does not want anything to do with going on her pad. She is having accident after accident. And my mom is getting frustrated because she said Chloe is ruining her floors. I tell her that she has to be patient because she is so young. It can take up to 6 months to fully train her. I said if you yell at her, she does not know what you are yelling at her for. I can't work with her that much because lately at work they have been scheduling me 6 days a week at work. And I really need the money to pay my bills. If it was not for my mom, I don't know what I would do. My mom said if she continues to have accidents, she is going to be confined to the laundry room until she gets it. I think she is terrified of going to use it in the laundry room because she thinks she is going to be locked up. She only gets confined to the laundry room at night while we are sleeping. She has free roam of the kitchen and dining room. But, my mom refuses to let her go in the living room or any of the bedrooms until she is fully trained. Today she literally has been having accidents every 20 minutes and barely used her pad at all. My mom has been trying to bring her to her pad every 15 minutes without much success. Our last yorkie Lacey was newspaper trained. And she was a breeze to train. She was fully trained in about a month or so. And never had accidents after that even when she was very sick with kidney failure. |
It took me about 6 months to get my dogs house trained. That was to get them trained to go outside though. I couldnt get them to use the peepad and gave up on that and trained them to go outside. |
It took me close to a year with Bailey. He didn't want anything to do with the wee wee pads. In regards to a collar, you can go to the Ferret section at your local petstore and buy one there till your baby gets big enough for a puppy collar. That is what we did with Bailey, also bought a ferret harness. Hope this helps. |

Edie is 5 year old, and she still has accidents when the weather is bad and she doesn't want to go outside. They are few and far between, however. It took over a year to housetrain her, and even then, she was not reliable until we put the doggie door in. |
My mom said she is going to give the puppy pads about another 2 weeks. If she is still not having much success, she is going to try to switch over to newspaper. Lacey our last yorkie we also got at 6 weeks old. The newspaper she caught on very easily! My mom said she rathers not use the newspaper because of the ink left on the floor. We will have to cover the whole laundry room floor with plastic underneath. Chloe is not going to be like Lacey. Even though they are both yorkies, 2 totally different personalities. Lacey was a petstore puppy and was probably used to being confined for hours. Chloe came from a breeder. I already noticed a difference in the two personalities. |
Not completely trained yet 2 Attachment(s) :aimeeyork My Chloe is over a year and still has accidents in the house. Where we live the winter is cold and if I don't reminder her she will sometimes pee where ever she wants, but most of the time on the puppy pad. She and Riley both use the puppy pads when they are left home alone. I think with a small dog it is harder to train them. Good luck don't give up, although I know it is hard to patient. Tucker is 10 months and no closer to being housebroken than he was the day we got him. He goes all over the house. It is so frustrating! I put a diaper on him, but he goes in that too. |
Yuri (9months) is nearly completely housebroken. He has accidents in the morning when I get up because he gets to excited that he gets to go outside to potty and he loses contorl. LOL. Lain (3yrs) is housebroken, except if I don't let her out fast enough, say within 20 mins of letting me know (usually in the morning) then she'll pee next to the door. That always makes me feel bad because I'm letting her down. |
Your puppy is very young and still getting used to being away from Mum and with you.Your breeder gave her to you very young. 8-10 weeks would have been better as early toilet training with litter mates would have begun.Just be patient. Praise, praise, praise when she does do well. Are you looking at fencing the yard? I used a kitten harness for my pup at first. She is 4 months and not fully trained yet,but is getting better at going outside. Can you gate her in the kitchen perhaps rather than shut her in the laundry except to sleep.Could she have a wee pad there too? Good luck. |
She shouldn't be allowed to run free until she figures this out and right now she is too young. Get an ex-pen or confine her to a room where she is part of the action. Make her pad available to her, if she uses it do cartwheels and give her a treat. (if she makes a mistake do nothing...except clean up the mess) good luck you can get a small harness at petsmart. http://www.petsmart.com/global/produ...=1140904114819 |
