Yorky licks wounds It's weird but every time I cut myself my yorky will go out of his way to lick that area. He will do it all the time like he's trying to clean it or something. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them, or have an explanation of why he does this. |
i think they all do it,,, i had a shepard husky who used to lick my leg when i cut it shaving,,,, lexi licks my legs when i get out of the shower,, same thing. |
Yeah! Actually, my aunt's yorkie saved her life, literally...She was bit by two black widows, and she didn't know what had happened, her wounds really burned and she got sick...While she was out in the yard her foot went in this hole thing. Anyway, when she came inside, her yorkie went nuts licking her wound over and over again...She said that the wound burned really bad and he just wouldn't stop licking and licking. She got really sick and then her yorkie got really, really sick, so she took him to the vet and they figured it out...he looked at her wounds and she went to her Dr. too and they said she had been bit by two black widows and that Dandy had saved her life by sucking and licking all the poison out of her...Amazing, huh? |
i think all dogs will lick wounds and sores if you let them. |
Cali will lick my husbands hands because he has bad psoriasis on them. |
Oh, I forgot to mention, Dandy survived!! And he's just a little 5lber boy! |

Any dog I have ever had has done this. It can be very annoying sometimes. Precious use to lick my legs all the time. I think it was her way of showing affection towards me. |
I don't have an explanation but mine does the same thing, it's like he knows it's an injury and he is trying to make it better. |
When my husband injured his foot our dog Jewels kept licking it. |
That's is a crazy but intressting story, I figured that he is just trying to clean it. I mean it can't hurt for your dog to lick your cut, right? |
That is all that my girls do is lick cut or no cut all they want to do to me and my hubby is lick, lick, lick!! |
If I get a wound or scab Bugaboo licks it ! :animal36 |
My husband says it makes the wound heal faster. I have no idea where he heard that from! |
they do it to clean our cuts or show affection. either that or our babys just have a wierd habit! |
I have heard (this may be an old wives tale) that dog saliva has healing properties which will help heal your wounds. They will lick their own wounds and sores, also, to make them heal. Then, again, I have heard that this is not true and is only an old wives tale. So, who do we believe? If I have a scratch or cut and they want to lick it, I just let them. It makes them feel better, so even if it doesn't help the scratch, it helps them. |
