I Am So Mad, But It's My Fault
 

Took Gizmo to the Vet this morning to get his last kennel cough vac. Young woman was in there and ask if she could pet Gizmo, so I said OK, BIG MISTAKE!
When I got in the exam room, vet assistant ask me if I saw the dog the woman had come in with, I told her no. She had already put him in an exam room. The assistant said the dog had no hair and to bath Gizmo as soon as I got him home or they could bathe him immediately. I told her for them to bathe him, she took him immediately to the back for a bath. I was so mad!!! But, I guess it was my fault. I will not let anyone I do not know pet Gizmo anymore.
You would have thought the woman would have had enough sense to not touch my dog, not knowing what was wrong with her dog. After the Vet exam her dog, found out it was not congatious, Thank God. Do you let strangers pet your fur babies?

That's scary! You made the right call to have them bathe Gizmo right away.

I've never considered not letting people pet my dogs, but I may think twice about doing so in a vet's office from now on.

i usually let people pet mine too..maybe i should think twice..

I always let people pet my Bunny... It what people do here in Germany... Sometimes they even pet her with out asking.. I might look into getting a pet stroller... I would not know what to do with out my Bunny...

Glad he is going e fine and he is fresh and clean :>) I had a Chinese Crested ane went to the vet for something ( can't remember ) and they all jumped back and talked to me from the other side of the room asking me if I knew he had MANGE!! I was SO mad, Now I think its SOOO funny.......if that would have been mange it would have been the worse case I had ever seen!

It is scary, The Vet is one place furbabies can catch just about anything. Last time we were at the Vets for check ups, there was three puppies who all had Parvo. :eek: :eek: :eek: They were washing the floor in Bleach.

It was smart to get that bath ASAP, You just never know.

What did the vet think the other dog had?

I never put my dogs on the floor at the vet and usually I tell them if they want to pet her that I'm not sure what's wrong with her. My vet is pretty good about having you wait outsdie or in your car if you dog has something contagious.

They said he had Red. I took it to be mange, but said not contagious.

You would think the woman would have enough sense NOT to pet your dog when she had no clue what her dog had and if it was contagious!!

"Such is life." When I have visited the vet, I have never seen a "sick" dog in the waiting room. Most of the dogs that I have encountered at the vets were there for shots, diabetes, arthritis, tons of broken bones, and other injuries, etc. etc.

But, I do keep my eyes and ears open at the vet's office and can easily keep my little pup on my lap. I think it's great that your vet's office jumped in with the information they gave you and offered to bath your pup and then did it. Good for them!

We, adults, go places where we can pick something up - our children go to the pediatrician's office where other sick children might be, and our dogs go to the vet's office where sick animals might be.

My vet takes sick animals in immediately - and cleans the examination tables with an antiseptic after every animal leaves. And, I know they would tell me if they thought my pup had been exposed to anything that might be contagious.

My advise when you go out into public places with your animals or children (especially doctor's offices) is just keep your eyes and ears open -- and don't let them run around the place. Keep them in their seats or in your arms until it's their turn to see the doctor.

We just have to use our brains and do the best we can. The world is not a perfect place - right?

He wasn't running around, he was right beside me and she walked over to us.

I haven't ever thought about this before so thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I let everyone touch Shelby and I encourage her to greet them. It's made her a very social little creature.

But you are right! I will draw the line at the vet. I would hope that the technicians wash their hands between handling dogs but now I wonder how careful they are?

Glad your Gizmo is alright. Thanks for the heads up, will think twice before I let any stranger pet my furbabies. I always take a blanket to the vet, don't like to put them on the tables.
