No Grapes or Raisens! Im trying to find the thread which was here a couple of days ago about what dogs should and should not eat. Anyway, I read that someone was feeding their pup grapes cos they were training. So I went and bought some grapes and tried Tino on them. Anyway - he loved them. Then someone told me dogs arent allowed them and raisens too cos they cant digest them and the ferment makes them feel drunk. So I rang my vet to ask them if its true and they said - they shouldnt eat grapes, it can cause kidney failure!! Im so sorry to ruin it for anyone but I just had to let you know. Here you go: "The latest study has found that raisins and grapes can lead to kidney failure in pets. Small dogs can also choke on grapes so it is best to just make sure that your pets eat a well-balanced diet that is formulated for their life stage." |
thanks for the info |
Oh no! I always give Pippa grapes she loves them. No more thou, thanks for info |
Good for you Alona posting this !! Grapes are a no no for yorkies...Here's a site where you can read about toxic foods http://www.peteducation.com/category...cls=2&cat=1939 when I met my husband he was giving his cockers grapes till I researched it on the net and made him stop....there's so many good things they can eat rather than take a chance with something toxic to their systems this is the main page.... Foods Which are Toxic: Common food items can be poisonous to dogs and puppies, sometimes in very small amounts. Food items, especially those listed below, should not be given to dogs, and should be stored out of their reach. Care should be taken while preparing and serving foods to assure a dog will not be tempted to "taste test" them. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chocolate and Caffeine Foods to Avoid Garbage Intoxication/Food Poisoning Grapes/Raisins Macadamia Nuts Mushroom Onion and Garlic |
Thanks Wow I never knew that. It makes them feel drunk. Wow who would have known. Too bad we can't eat raisens and feel the same. Just kidding. Well will definetly stay away thanks to you. Thank you for the info. ;) |

I know dogs shouldn't eat grapes or raisins. But, my pup has certainly had more than his share. I have a bird that eats grapes and once my puppy ate a whole bowl of them before I knew he was eating them. And - when my bird got full and started throwing his grapes on the floor - you know who gobbled them up - my Yorkie. So - because they are not good for him, I watch carefully and make sure he doesn't get them anymore. I don't worry if he grabs one or two a week.....but they are definitely not on his food list. I was feeding Starr raisins as a potty treat until I read in a Womans Magazine that they are toxic to dogs. I have heard onions are also. Starr loves veggies the wierdo. She eats dried cranberries for potty treats now. |
Ya.. I have seen this topic a couple times in YT before.. So.. definitely no no to grapes.. My friend used to feed grapes often.. but. not good for teeth etc!!! Good info! |
My aunt owns 2 beautiful pekinese. Cheech and Chong. She was baby-sitting for her 3 grandkids. They are 7, 3, and 2. Well, the kids were eating raisins. A few fell on the floor and Chong ate them. He is only 3 years old and is in kidney failure. I don't want to scare anyone, but just to be extra careful. |
Thank for the info, I had no idea. Mitzi is a carrotaholic, so I'm lucky. She doesn't really like other veggies (She hates peas, she rolls them around the floor!) She does like apples though. I definately will be avoiding grapes when it's grape season. I love grapes and probably would have given her a few when I buy them if you hadn't posted this! |
