A puppy hair question ,,,again ,, I was wondering if Puppy fur can be a differant texture than adult hair when its finished coming in ? And will slightly curly hair go straight ..or can it? or will it always be curly? thanks .. :aimeeyork |
Yes the puppy hair and adult hair can be a different texture. Chachi had curly hair when he was a pup and now as an adult it is straight. |
Yes, puppy hair is more dense and tens to wave next to the body when they are younger. |
Yes, Desi's baby hair was a little coarse and wavy now, at a year old, her hair is straight and very silky. |

Murphy's puppy hair was very oily and it was almost as though he had been dipped in oil. It was weird - but, as soon as this hair grew out and was removed - he has beautiful grey straight hair (not oily at all) that a comb will go right through. He has never had one tangle - even wearing clothes a lot of the time. So - I can definitely say that my pup's puppy hair was terrible and his new coat is wonderful. I cut the puppy hair off as soon as I could. He is 6 months old now - sporting a beautiful puppy cut with wonderful hair. Carol Jean |
About a month or so ago, I also had written in about the puppy hair versus new hair growth. Missy had super thick hair on her back. We just had her cut short Thursday into a modified Schnauzer cut and her hair is definitely silky. All of a sudden I couldn't brush all the way through her hair and underneath it was all matted up. It was the hair right next to the skin that was matting not on the ends at all. That was strange. |
My OZ had wiry fine hair .. it was awful! it matted so easily and looked like dreadlocks most of the time ..sticking together in clumps on the ends ... I recently cut him short and his new coat coming in is gorgeous! silky and soft and very manageable! |
Zowie had very frizzy like puppy hair. It also started to matt more as it grew. Now her coat is very shiny, silky and she never matts at all. Bronx had the most beautiful curly puppy coat, but now it's like a perm - I will shave him as the weather warms up, he HATES to be brushed. |
