Can anyone tell me about Yorkie poos
 

Hi everyone. Can anyone tell me about the disposition of a yorkie poo???? I need any feedback that anyone has to offer. If anyone out there owns a yorkie poo, please respond. I have always had purebred yorkies and am intersted in getting a yorkie poo. Thanks!!!!Cyndi

My mom has 2 they are great dogs. Her's have more of the yorkie traits. They are very good dogs.

Personally, in my own opinion, I would never have one when I can get something exactly the same or similar from a Yorkie or Poodle rescue. Why buy something that can't even be registered for that much money when you can spend a lot less and get one that deserves the chance at a loving home? Just my opinion on that. As with any mutt, you just have to get to know the dog. One pup from the litter could have more poodle hair while one has more yorkie like hair. one may act more like a poodle, one may act more like a yorkie. and so on and so on. Not one will ever be the same as far as looks, personality, body structure, etc.

We have lil bear which is full yorkie, but my mom has been sick and she is her helper now so I started looking for a yorkie of my own. Well I ended up getting a yorkie-poo and eventhough I love yorkies and would take another one in a heartbeat the yorkie-poo has taken my heart.

Moose, the light color one in my avatar, is a year old. She was very easy to pottytrain, and picks up on commands quickly. I am in the process of starting to train her to be my service dog. She is not as headstrong as lil bear, she is a bit timid but we are working on that and she is a great guard dog. Lil Bear will bark and then run and hide just incase. Moose will stand her ground and growl and bark. I think you get the best of both breeds and everyone of the yorkie-poos I have seen look like yorkies in the face which is a big plus.

Though I'm sure I don't have to tell you but keep in mind every dog is different and you can't judge one dog by another dog of the same breed

Unfortuantly some rescues are not the nicest when it comes to people wanting to adopt. I was put through a year of misery when I started looking into adopting. I am allergic to most dogs so I was limited in breeds, and wanted something on the small side. I tried two yorkies rescued, one told me since I lived at home my parents was have to adopt it and be the resposible party for the rest of it's life. Another told me I couldn't adopt any of their yorkies because I was 27 and might have kids someday. I got the same from two poodle rescue places and two bichon rescues. Another poodle rescue was very nice to me but they only had standard poodles. The selters here either had sheading dogs, or huge dogs, and the one time they had a yorkie and a poodle I got there that morning and I was told yeah someone else got it, they were on a waiting list...well why wasn't I told this when I asked. Another shelter would not let me take a walk to see what they had, the lady told me she didn't have time. So with all those issues what other recourse did I have? I see it as I did save a dog, she could have been bought buy a collector, an abuser, or someone who let her out all the time. None of those rescues even let me have a chance to explain why I wanted to adopt of how well I take care of Lil Bear. I was willing to travel the east coast and the gulf to give a poor pup a home. And some of the rescues wanted more than what I paided for moose.

I hope to adopt a pup one day, but I hope not to encounter the downright rudeness I had to deal with for a year.

My mom got pretty lucky with hers. Annie is 9 years old and is the product of our yorkie Bailey(RIP) and my aunts poodle and she has such a great personality she reminds me so much of our Bailey and Tigger is her baby so she is 3/4 poodle but she is also turned more like the yorkies than the poodles. I'm definielty not saying this to step on anyone's toes. Most of the poodles I have been around don't have the sweet temperment & personality of the yorkies.

Gotta tell ya...the title of this thread didn't have me thinking of a mixed breed dog :D Thought you literally had a question about yorkie POO :eek:

Yorkie-Poos are wonderful. I have akc yorkie and yorkie-poo. Muffy(my poo) is the most lovable, caring, funny, and everything else you can say wonderful about a dog. Muffy was my first encounter with a yorkie and our family loved her so much we wanted another but no one w a yorkie would breed with her so we got a yorkie (kirby) who is also wonderful. All I can say is Muffy has been a very wonder and important part of our family.

God, that is true with a lot of resuces. you really do have to find a good one sometimes. Our Golden Retriever Rescue here in town is god awful to work with. People in town have an easaier time getting puppies from the very good picky breeders than they do adopting an older golden from the rescue. It saddens me that a lot of those rescues who advertise to adopt their pups are so difficult to work with b.c it makes it very hard for people who are very able and more than willing to adopt them.

I'm happy (not because of how some rescues act) but to hear you have had some of the same encounters. I was just so upset, Here I wanted to give a needy dog a loving forever home and it was like no one wanted to get the pups adopted. I was in tears almost every night. I even called some that don't adopt out of other states to give my cause and no one wanted to give me a chance. Ane let me tell you when rescues in Fl found out I was looking for jobs in other cities they would say no. I had one lady say to me so when you move you just going to abandon the pup you say you will love forever. I lost it with that comment and let her know I think of dogs as furry people and if I couldn't find a place that accepted my baby then I wouldn't take the job no matter how good it was.

I know moose was a blessing because she has saved me in many ways. Like I said in the post above, I feel I rescued her and she has done the same for me

It is rediculous how some rescues act. I completely understand they want the best possible home for the babies, but it's not like we're all criminals just out of jail for animal abuse and that's exactly how they tend to treat people. it's made me consider doing some Yorkie Fostering of my own to give people who want to adopt a chance to actually HAVE a chance at adopting one who's been rescued.

I have thought the same thing. I know they just want to find good forever homes but if you won't evern gave a person a chance, for petesake just a meeting or a phone call something how will these pups ever get good homes? One of the rescues that I had looked at and put in applications for 2 different dogs, I just talked to cause I saw both of the dogs still on the site. They are still there almost a year since I had looked at them and who knows how long before that they had been there.
