I was so proud! I know for some this won't be a big deal but others may appreciate it a little more because they can relate to it! I got the boys up early to feed them before the ride to the groomer this morning so they could have enough time to get there on an empty stomach and they did great...the grooming went well (behavior wise but not satisfaction wise  ) and the groomer loved them. We had to go into town (about 8 miles each way) so we decided to take them along...they had their first ride in a store cart (covered with their own blanket for protection) and got lots of attention at Home Depot. They did so well there we took them across the street to PetSmart to shop but they weren't too impressed with the toy isle because I think they already have one of everything! So we start the ride home and I'm thrilled that they're doing so well...5 miles from home and still fine...2 miles and fine...1block and Riley lost it! Jo couldn't take it so he lost it too...I felt bad for them...they tried so hard and did so well up to that point. I figured out what happened though, the groomer gave them a treat when they were done. I left a list of what to cut and what not to cut but I forgot to mention no treats because they get carsick...I'm a bad mom! So, now I'm washing their little blankies while they lay in the sun...I guess that's my punishment for not telling them no treats! |
Oh, well, Mom...you can't be perfect all the time. You can just learn from this experience and remember next time to tell the groomer "no treats"! I think they did very well, though, to last as long as they did. I suspect that more car rides will get them used to it and you won't have this problem as they get older. (Maybe....some never get over it.) |
Awww. I can totally relate to this because my Nikko gets carsick everytime we ride to my mom's house. It is about 45 minutes away by car (if the traffic is light) and he always tosses his cookies at least 3 times :( I hate when that happens because they look so miserable. I try not to feed him before we go and he will still find a way of puking something. But at least your boys held on long enough. For that they should be commended  |
Yah, artierae...I think it was the decaff coffee this morning...it caused a brain fart and I didn't get all the info on the card before I took it in. They did do well, that was their longest trip with no meds and altogether they did about 15 miles with no trouble. :) Nikko's_human...I'm hoping my boys grow out of this but so far not much luck. We're going to start taking them on a trip everyday now so maybe that will help. Jo did wonderful from Ill. to FL. with Benadryl but Riley won't take it. I got pills from the vet and they seem to work with Riley but not Jo so we might be giving 2 different medicines if we take a long trip. I hope Nikko grows out of his motion sickness. |
Gracie grew out of it, thank goodness but she really had a rough time of it until she did. Take heart, it will get better. |
Kobe always has a 7:30a.m. appt. time for his grooming. It is a 30 minute care ride. I don't feed him until after we get back. Otherwise it ends up in my vehicle before we get there. He is very restless on the way their but he is fine on the ride home. He did receive a new car seat for Christmas and so far it has helped. He has an appt. of Friday so I hope it all goes well. |
Thanks Inovack...I'm hoping the boys will grow out of it too but Jo is almost 15 months and Riley is almost 10 months. How old was Gracie when she grew ut of it? Kobesmomma...the car seats may be our next step. I really think the boys would have been fine if they wouldn't have given them that treat! |
Yeah! I feel you, my girl gets carsick at times to and out of nowhere comes the vomit. |
help for carsickness for those of you that have little ones that get carsick you can always try GINGER tablets you give 1/4 to them before you go in the car and it does help you can get ginger at most walmarts where they sell the vitamins make sure you get tablets not capsules. my vet told my mom to do this for her 3 dogs since she travels all the time with them. Gracie was about a year old when she finally stopped throwing up in the car every time she was in it. We took her for LOTS of car rides, short and long to try to get her used to riding. She was really afraid to ride in the car at first and we have always wondered if she was so scared that she got sick - she would tremble and cry then throw up. We think she just got used to and comfortable with riding in the car. |
